About Retreat Bromley Cross
Retreat Bromley Cross is an independent bar and grill in Bolton, at Old Village Hall. The kitchen builds its menu around small dishes to share, including hanging skewers, so a table can order several plates and split them. Salt and pepper squid and scallops sit among the smaller plates. Larger dishes include Chateaubriand, Sirloin Steak and Sea Bass Risotto, with Garlic Bread on the side. Across 20 dishes, the kitchen runs a lunch menu alongside the main menu. Pilsner Urquell is on the drinks list, and sticky toffee pudding closes the dessert side. Booths line the dining room.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the huge portions, with the food described as delicious and fantastic. Sharing small dishes is a favorite, and one group of four found nine dishes a lot of food. Close behind come the friendly staff, the decor, and a buzz on arrival. One reviewer calls the decor better than the original Retreat, and another says staff made walkers in hiking gear feel welcome. A coke float and the sticky toffee pudding earn individual mentions, and the salt and pepper squid and hanging skewers appear in praise of an otherwise lovely evening. Reviewers raise a few minor complaints: the hanging skewers needed a sauce, the squid needed more dip, the kids pizza was very thick, and the place can get busy and loud at peak times. One diner at a very busy Christmas meal reports a service charge plus charges for drinks that never arrived and their replacements, noticed only after getting home, along with trucks blocking disabled spaces. Several mention celebrating birthdays here, and one family meal for an 18th was called outstanding.

“A gem of a place. The atmosphere was great and nice and busy on a Friday evening, our waitress was excellent and so lovely with my little boy. The food was delicious (although one of our party had the hanging skewers and suggested it needed some sort of sauce, the salt and pepper squid needed more dip on the plate and the kids pizza was v thick hence 4 stars) but minor things for a lovely evening to celebrate a 50th birthday. Will be back!”

“Me and my friend visited for lunch today i have been many times to the old bolton venue but wow this one was such a treat. The decor and ambience was fantastic. We walked in with walking gear but was made to feel extremely welcome dispite our attire for such a beautiful place. We ordered drinks and although the lunch menu was fab we ended up ordering from the main menu 🐖 the food was huge in portions and absolutely delicious so shout out to the chefs. Service was fantastic all staff smiling and friendly and we both cant wait to go back again soon. Fantastic food and staff. Definitely recommend”

“Visited multiple times each time has been lovely. Lunch menu is fairly priced with a good variety and evening meals are decent sized portions for your money. Can get busy and loud at peak times and there is outdoor seating with heaters and a good sized carpark.”
