  “A mixed experience, but I really want this place to succeed. Firstly, the staff were excellent. Most of the serving team appeared to be school or college-age students, but they were incredibly friendly, attentive and couldn’t do enough for customers. They’ve clearly been well trained and were a real credit to the café. The building itself is wonderful. It’s a lovely slice of Blackpool’s Art Deco history and genuinely feels like stepping back in time. The Duke of Edinburgh had visited just a few days before us, so perhaps there had been a little extra attention to detail, but the bunting and Union flags looked fantastic and really suited the surroundings. Hopefully they stay! I gave four stars rather than five for atmosphere simply because I think some subtle period background music would really complete the experience and bring the room to life. Everywhere was also very clean. The one exception worth mentioning was the smell in the gents. The toilets themselves actually appeared clean, but there was an extremely strong smell of urine. It may simply be worth reviewing the cleaning/deodorising products being used, because the smell was quite overpowering. Unfortunately, the food and drink were where the experience fell down for us. The coffee was extremely weak and watery and really wasn’t enjoyable. We also ordered the fish bucket. When ordering, our server specifically explained that the fish was breaded and deep-fried, which was absolutely fine. Unfortunately, it was incredibly greasy. When pressed, the breading was almost sponge-like with the amount of oil it had absorbed, which made it difficult to enjoy. That said, the other food we tried was better. The fish-finger sandwich was actually very nice, so it certainly wasn’t all negative. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The café itself is an asset to Stanley Park, the staff are excellent and the building deserves to thrive. For me, though, the food and coffee aren’t quite there yet. I genuinely wish them well. I know this beautiful building has suffered periods of neglect in the past, so it’s great to see it being used and enjoyed again. I hope the café continues to be a success, with a little refinement to the food and drink.”
