Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the lunch and dinner food, naming the Haggis Bonbons, the Lasagne, Steak Pie and Strawberry tart, along with the salmon and a fish and chips with a double, very crispy batter. Others describe a soup and sandwich lunch as lovely and beautifully presented, with generous portions and a huge menu. The grounds and the view of horses in the indoor arena draw praise, and several call the staff lovely. Service speed is the recurring caveat. One party of nine reports a starter left finished for a good half hour and mains arriving after a long wait, with a cold Arrabiata, while another says kids' meals took almost 30 minutes. Kitchen complaints include a burnt, rock hard chicken burger and a meatball ciabatta with scorched cheese, almost no sauce and untoasted bread. One reviewer reports overhearing a nearby table say their fish tasted off. One diner praised a manager who fixed a problem with a starter.

“A very distinctive restaurant/pub. The dishes were truly good and flavorful; I enjoyed the salmon and—surprisingly—the fish and chips, which featured a double, very crispy batter. The staff were kind and accommodating. It is best to make a reservation; however, since we were staying at the adjacent campsite, we asked the owner, and he kindly called ahead to book a table for two for us. Reasonable prices.”

“Service was much slower than usual. We ordered kids meals 1st while we were still choosing. After almost 30 minutes we had to ask if it was on the way as kids were hungry (1 year & 2 year olds )”

“Dear Manager, I am writing to make a formal complaint regarding a very disappointing visit to your Bishopton restaurant. Firstly, despite the restaurant being near empty, we were seated directly in between two occupied tables rather than being offered a booth or some separate space. Given the number of empty tables available, this made for an unnecessarily uncomfortable experience. When we sat down, there were also no forks on our table, despite other tables being fully set up, which immediately gave the impression of poor attention to detail. I specifically asked for a can of Irn-Bru, however I was served a glass with ice instead. I do not like ice in soft drinks as it waters them down and makes them flat, which is exactly why I asked for a can. During our visit, the table behind us complained about their meal and mentioned they believed the fish tasted off, which was concerning to overhear. The biggest issue was the food itself. My daughter’s chicken burger was completely unacceptable — it was burnt, overcooked, grey in colour and rock hard. It should never have left the kitchen in that condition. It was genuinely disgusting and not something that should ever be served. Two of us ordered pasta dishes and were never offered parmesan cheese, which is generally standard when serving pasta. It also took a considerable amount of time for drinks to arrive despite the restaurant having very few occupied tables. I have given Palominos numerous chances over time, hoping things would improve, but unfortunately this visit has confirmed that the standards continue to disappoint. The food quality simply does not justify the prices being charged. I would appreciate a response regarding this experience and what steps will be taken to address these issues. Kind regards”

“Such a disappointment, been wanting to try this place for a while. Went for lunch. Couldn't get the 2 for £20 menu for some reason. Ordered a Mozzarella and meatball ciabatta, bad move. At no point on the menu does it say it comes covered in rocket, I mean what kind of monster puts salad on a meatball sandwich. At least I could pick that off. The cheese was cremated, when it should have been nice melty mozzarella. The sauce was non existent, couldn't have been more than a teaspoon, but it had maybe dried up, as it looked like it had been under a heat lamp for a while. And to top it all off, the ciabatta wasn't toasted. There are 17 year old kids working in subway can make a better meatball sandwich than that”
