Quick info
About Basil's
Basil's is a sandwich shop on Shore Road in Belfast built around the Ulster fry, which comes in a large size for bigger appetites. Filled sodas sit alongside it, and baked beans are ordered separately rather than arriving with the fry. Breakfast runs to sausage and bacon baps, while omelettes hold a steady place on the menu. The lunchtime side of the counter turns to sandwiches, subs and paninis. Service works on a walk-in basis, with orders placed at the counter and no reservations taken. The kitchen runs daytime hours from Tuesday to Saturday, and the shop stays closed on Sundays and Mondays. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without a kerb or stair to manage. Food is also packed up for takeaway, so a fry or a filled soda can be carried off to eat elsewhere.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to Basil's most for the Ulster fry, with several calling it the best large fry they have tasted and one praising the Belfast fry as good value. Close behind are the filled sodas and the range of sandwiches, subs and paninis, while omelettes, a sausage and bacon bap, lasagna, peppered chips and a lunchtime chicken pie each get a mention. One reviewer notes a good vegetarian selection. Staff are repeatedly called lovely and friendly, and diners describe food arriving quickly for a group of five and a warm welcome only minutes before closing. Prices come up again and again as reasonable or cheap, and one reviewer says the place is getting harder to get a seat in. The one recurring wrinkle is small: a reviewer found the fry does not come with baked beans, though the staff gave them free anyway. A taxi driver taking breakfast away also likes the foldable paper plate that keeps hands off the food.

“Discovered this lovely cafe around two years ago and continue to visit this amazing place to this day. Food is superb and the service is great. Joanna is happy to make any customizations for any of my meals without hesitation. Must try their omelettes, ulster frys, filled sodas, lunch sandwiches, peppered chip, lasagna and more. A great cafe which won't disappoint, and a must visit if you're around North Belfast.”

“You won't find a better "local" cafe anywhere . Quality food at a good price and great service. A genuine hidden gem that is unfortunately no longer "hidden", it's getting harder to get a seat lol. Everything cooked fresh and a great atmosphere in the place.”
