About La Taqueria Castle Street
La Taqueria Castle Street is a Mexican restaurant in Belfast, on the first floor below the cookery school at 53 Castle St. The menu leads with birria beef tacos, made with pulled beef and served with bone broth. Vegan oyster mushroom tacos sit alongside them, and vegan cheese is available on the tacos. Cauliflower, pork and chicken tacos fill out the taco list, and a chicken quesadilla and chips and guacamole cover the rest of the menu. The bar pours classic and mezcal margaritas, and a tequila flight is also available. Papitas fritas come as a side, with a vegan version too.

Pork and chicken tacos, a chicken quesadilla and the guacamole also get mentions, and one reviewer favoured the pork tacos. Mezcal and classic margaritas are called well-made and delicious, and a tequila flight gets a nod. One reviewer says booking is needed even midweek, and another mentions Tuesday deals. One reviewer says the tacos are bigger than at traditional Mexican spots, and two staff handled a full room with a smile.

“This place has AMAZING vegan tacos!!! Had the vegan oyster mushroom tacos and chips and guacamole. I moved over to Ireland after living in LA for so much of my life and while not the real deal still these are absolutely amazing and the closest thing I’ve found to Mexican food since moving to the island and trying about near everywhere. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in town. Vegans rejoice!!! We loved it here!!”

“Great little hidden treasure! I came across this place almost by accident. It is on the first floor below the cookery school in Castle Street. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is excellent - a little different from the normal Mexican but highly recommended and very tasty. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!”

“Absolutely fantastic mexican dining in Belfast. I cannot recommend it enough. The Beef Birria tacos are a must have. Their use of coriander in the dishes was exemplary (I myself hate coriander, but the chefs here balanced the plates so well it was complementary to all dishes). Absolutely worth a visit.”

“In searching for a great food option that wasn’t European faire, we decided to try La Taqueria. The space was cozy and moody and especially busy for a mid weekday. We managed to get a spot but it took some time to get our order (not a problem for us because we enjoyed the hang). The tacos were fantastic and the guac was tasty too. While not necessarily fully authentic Mexican, they were delicious nonetheless. The tacos are much bigger than what we are used to in traditional Mexican spots. Enjoy for deals on a Tuesday!”

“Absolutely fantastic service. The staff were all so attentive and friendly. Any questions we had to do with the menu they were able to answer, offer recommendations and explain spice level. The food was UNREAL! I can’t even describe the flavours”
