About The National
The National is a cafe and bar in Belfast at 62 High St, with a brunch menu built around bacon naan topped with chilli fried eggs and tomato chutney. Brisket hash and a National Bennie sit alongside it, and breakfast and brunch dishes are served through lunch. The bar side pours craft beers and cocktails, and the venue also hosts a Sensorium cocktail experience. The room is large, with exposed brick and natural light. A big round table in the room gives groups a shared place to sit together.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the bacon naan, served with chilli fried eggs and tomato chutney, and one pairs it with potato bread fries. Close behind are the National Bennie, the brisket hash, and waffles and chicken, while others praise the bunch baps, strawberry lemonades and flat white coffees. Breakfast items are called much above average, and one reviewer likes that the lower prices did not cost the food its quality. Staff are described as friendly, and the garden is called lovely to sit in on a sunny day. The recurring complaint is speed. Several say food took longer than expected, including on a quiet morning and a busy bank holiday, and one waited 20 minutes for an iced latte that never arrived before leaving for a coffee elsewhere. One late-night visitor found the big room short on atmosphere, comparing it to an airport waiting room, and another enjoyed the Sensorium cocktail experience as a different night out. One reviewer mentions the badger in the ceiling, which gave them a spook.

“Went to the Sensorium cocktail experience. Extremely enjoyable and unique experience. Fully recommend giving it a try as something different for a night out.”

“Had a bacon naan and potato bread fries, both were great. We were one of the first in so the national was fairly quiet and the food took a little longer than we felt it should have but was worth the wait”

“Very beautiful, and a nice smell when you enter. The food was great and the place was also spacious and pretty. Clean well signaled bathrooms and nice atmosphere in general, very pleasant experience. The badger in the ceiling gave me a bit of a spook though!”

“After an early morning arrival in Belfast for an evening work event, I headed to The National for brunch and to catch up on some work, and I'm so glad I did. Their Bacon Naan, with chilli fried eggs and tomato chutney was outstanding! All the other dishes I saw coming out from the kitchen also looked dynamite - wish I had been staying in Belfast for longer to try more. Great flat white coffees as well, and the service was top notch - friendly, welcoming and always on hand to keep water topped up or grab you any other drinks. A must visits for brunch or lunch in Belfast - I'll definitely be back!”

“Open till 1am is a Monday night winner. Bar man was all in for those of us who were there, appeared single crewed. Good rather than outstanding drinks. Plenty of room to sit or stand. Yet makes it a big box with less atmosphere - bit of an airport waiting room… still open later than most other places on a Monday night.”
