Customer Review Summary
Delivery times dominate the reviews, with most complaints describing orders that arrive hours late after phone calls that went unanswered or stalled. One reviewer says staff claimed the food was out for delivery when it was only just being cooked, and another says they were shouted at for not being patient. Cold food and missing items recur too. One reviewer received an incomplete order for a third time, and the sauce for the sweet and sour chicken balls arrived long after a follow-up call. Another says the driver told them the unpaid part of the bill would be taken from his wages. Opinion on the food itself splits sharply. Praise goes to delicious food, exceptional quality, and the best Chinese one visiting couple had eaten in a long while, and the squid is called very good. Others call the chicken vile and the food inedible, and one finds the shredded chilli beef sweet. One longtime customer who still likes the food cancelled an order after being told it was only just being cooked.

“genuinely regret ever setting foot in Oriental Break—the food wasn’t just bad, it was an unholy abomination that felt like it had been dredged through rancid grease, left to decay, and then served anyway; the taste was indescribably foul, like the most greasy, vile, sweat-soaked warhorse imaginable—the most vile warhorse ever—that had been rolling around in nuclear waste and somehow fallen off a three-story house before being dragged back through filth and slapped onto a plate, with every bite coating your mouth in a thick, nauseating film that refused to go away, making it feel less like eating food and more like enduring punishment, with nothing remotely fresh, clean, or edible about it—just pure, stomach-churning nastiness from beginning to end, an experience so revolting it honestly makes you question how it was ever allowed to be served.”

“I only ordered from this place once, and will never do it again. The food was not bad, but the delivery took around 2 hours. I actually had to drive to the place as no contact numbers were working, and only when I got there did I get a call from my partner saying the food had finally arrived. No sorrys, no nothing from the lady at the restaurant. Never again!”

“Has to wait over 2 hours for food. When I rang after an 90 minutes and was told it was cooking. Then I rang again at 130 minutes and she shouted at me for not being patient. She said give the driver a chance. I was stunned. She was rude and wouldn't even let me talk. Then when the order came it was missing one of the items ordered. I knew she wouldn't lisyen to me so I just left it. Will not be using again. Disgusting customer service. Waited over 2 hours and was literally screamed at for not being patient.”

“Good service and delicious food. My partner and I visited Basingstoke for the first time and we both agreed this was the best Chinese we’ve had in a long while.”
