About Bistro Romanos
Bistro Romanos is a family-owned Italian restaurant at 24 Shambles St in Barnsley, run with the owner on hand. The kitchen turns out pizza, including a pizza fungi, alongside the rest of its Italian menu. For a large plate, the Romano's special is served in generous portions. Those wanting something smaller can order the stuffed pancake, which comes in a starter-size portion and can also be had as a main, so it works either way at the table.

Customer Review Summary
Pizza draws the most praise, with one reviewer calling the pizza fungi really nice and another placing the pizza among the best in town. Close behind are generous portions, including a creamy mushroom risotto, the Romano's special, and a pancake stuffed with chicken, mushrooms and cheese under cheese sauce. Several describe friendly, quick service, and the owner and family running the place are called welcoming and attentive. Reviewers also mention authentic, fresh tasting food and good wine. The complaints are specific. One first time diner found the garlic pizza bread undercooked and soggy, the calamari frozen and small, and a fillet steak ordered medium rare tough and closer to well done. The waiter said it was fine and no one apologised, though the cost was deducted from the bill. A longtime regular was told the card machine was no longer in use, leaving cash or bank transfer, and suggests the website or booking should state this.

“Our first visit before going to the Lamproom Theatre, and we loved it. The service was excellent with really friendly staff. And the food was delicious, so we will definitely be back again when we visit Barnsley for another theatre trip.”

“Been going to Romano’s for many years the food never lets us down the service is great if not a little too keen. Went recently and on paying was told either cash or bank transfer as they no longer use the card machine. We had no cash so bank transfer it was . It took a couple of attempts as myself or my friend are of an age where tech doesn’t come easily and when you’ve had a couple of drinks remembering bank passwords is a bit of a task. If you go here I’d take cash maybe it should be stated on the website or on booking that these are the payment methods.”

“Sorry to say this about a local restaurant but it was my first visit tonight and the food was disappointing. Garlic pizza bread was undercooked and soggy. Calamari was frozen and small but £37 Medium Rare fillet steak was at best medium well done and tough. I sent both back and no one apologised in fact the waiter came to tell me it was fine!! No apology for the food but they did deduct the cost from the bill. It was a family birthday but this cast a shadow on it. Will not be going back.”
