Customer Review Summary
Roughly half the recent reviews describe a sharp decline. One delivery order arrived with a soggy scrambled egg roll and a tuna sandwich reduced to two bits of bread thrown into the box, another breakfast came soggy, cold and undercooked with white gooey eggs and rotten pancakes, and a further reviewer found a beef burger too thin to see and the mac and chips overpriced for what was served. One reviewer also reports finding rat traps out in the open seating area and being served without seeing hands washed, a single account rather than a wider pattern. Several longtime customers, who once called it a favourite, say the same trip left the food absolutely horrible for the first time.

“Ordered breakfast as not feeling well. Food arrived soggy cold and under cooked. Bacon was white eggs all gooey pancakes were rotten. Used to be lovely in here been loads off time never had an issue but it's massively went down hill.”

“I ordered food for delivery as I am not well. The scrambled egg roll was so soggy it fell apart, The tuna mayonnaise sandwich was basically two bits of bread with filling and thrown into box. Presentation was disgraceful, it wouldn't be fit for purpose in any culinary aspect. How on earth you think this is at all acceptable to send food out like that is unbelievable!! Not at all acceptable!!! Not a good representation og your establishment!!”

“What happened to this amazing place? I don’t know. First time ever I will say that food was absolutely horrible , not sure I will be coming back. Very sad, because Helen’s always even best place to have nice homely food. Such a shame”

“We have always loved going to Helen’s Café in Ayr and often called it a little hidden gem. Unfortunately, on our most recent visit the experience was very disappointing. …”

“We stayed in Ayr August 25 and happened upon Helen's just off the high st as it was dog friendly! Not only did the Family enjoy a lovely meal , our Dashund Matilda enjoyed a plate of chicken and bowl water too. The Staff where Great and one of the Young Waitresses suggested Cumbrae to visit as the ferry's to Arron where all booked . We did this next day and that was great too. We visited Helens once more before we left and the meal and staff again lovely worth a visit . Thank you x”
