About La Taverna
Facing the Cairngorm Mountains at 1 Grampian Rd, La Taverna is a family-run Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Aviemore. The pizza list includes a haggis and black pudding pizza, and some pizzas are large enough that diners take half home. A gluten-free crust is available, and the kitchen has catered to allergies. Pasta runs to lasagna, and the cheesy garlic bread comes as a baguette topped with cheese and garlic. An a la carte menu runs all year. A private dining room gives larger parties a space of their own, and dogs are welcome. The restaurant can fill up at peak times, with a wait for a table.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the pizza, with the haggis and black pudding pizza singled out alongside pizzas on gluten-free crust, and portions large enough that one diner took half home. Close behind are the fish carbonara, prawn salad, minestrone and mozzarella sticks, with a few noting the food caught allergies well and the dog-friendly section suited them. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, particularly a young waiter, and one reviewer notes service came quickly, with food on the table fifteen minutes after ordering. The recurring complaint concerns the woman reviewers take to be the manager or owner. One says she shouted across a table at a waiter, another felt unwelcome at the bar and received a poorly handled takeaway order, and one reviewer describes rude treatment from a manager and wonders whether it was linked to being Indian. Another says the lasagna and spaghetti were watery, the garlic bread slices were poor value, and a short wait stretched longer. One reviewer who came for the buffet found it no longer running, and hoped it would return.

“Food was lovely and it has a dog friendly section as well which was great for us. The only thing we did miss was that they have stoped doing the Buffet at the moment which is a shame as was the reason we visited, but hopefully they will restart it even if they have to put the price up as would still go as the food is just lovley and like you can try new dishes you maybe wouldnt order. Thanks again for a great visit”

“I had a very disappointing experience with the way the manager treated us. We simply popped into the restaurant and politely asked if there was a table available. She told us it might take more than 45 minutes and asked us to stand outside the restaurant, saying that she would call us when a table became available. From the very beginning, her manner towards us felt unnecessarily rude and angry, and I honestly could not understand why. Initially, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and thought perhaps she was stressed or having a busy day. However, even later, while taking our order, her attitude remained the same. She continued to speak and behave in a way that made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was genuinely one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in the UK. I do not like to make assumptions, and I sincerely hope this was not the reason, but the way we were treated made me wonder whether it could have been because we are Indian. I feel uncomfortable even having to raise this point, but I believe it is important to be honest about how the experience made us feel. I raised the issue with another member of staff, who was very polite and cordial. I explained what had happened, and he kindly offered to ask the manager to come and speak with us. However, by that point, I had already had enough of the situation and did not wish to speak with her again, so I asked him not to bother. I would genuinely request the management to take note of this incident and look into the matter seriously. No customer should be made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or treated differently when simply visiting a restaurant. I appreciate your time in reading this and hope appropriate action will be taken. Thank you.”

“Food was good and they catered to allergies well. Our waiter was a lovely young lad. The manager or owner , we are not sure, seemed extremely stressed, and actually stopped and shouted over the top of our table to one of the young waiters, and again when I passed the bar. It made the atmosphere a bit tense. Over all it was good food and good service.”

“£5.50 for three slices of a baguette with cheese and garlic on top? That's not really good enough. Both lasagna and spag book quite watery and at £15 and £17 each, a far cry from the quality you used to get here before it changed hands. 15 minute wait also became nearly half an hour.”
