  “A bit disappointed by my lunch here at Bear. I had the Mexican bowl with halloumi. It was a bit light for the price and the taste was okay. I was expecting more honestly. It was a bit bland and the quality of ingredients were not very good. However the drinks were good.”

  “If you want a coffee or a delicious Burger, or even both, then this is the place for you. Certainly a hefty burger that was NOT dry. Crispy fries. Perfect.”

  “We had a great brunch here whilst on holiday. The team accommodated our large group of 11 (including 3 small children) and were very friendly, welcoming and understanding when we asked for some menu adjustments, nothing was too much trouble. Crayons and colour sheets were left for the children too and it was a great experience. The food was also delicious 😋”

  “I recently popped into BEAR on St John Street and it instantly became one of my favourite spots in Ashbourne. The coffee is genuinely excellent – I had a flat white that was rich, well-balanced and perfectly made with speciality beans that are clearly roasted with care. It’s consistently top-notch and easily rivals the best independent cafés in bigger cities. What really stood out was how dog-friendly it is. My furry companion was made to feel right at home (with plenty of space and no awkward glances), which made the whole visit so much more relaxed. The decor and ambience are lovely too – a perfect blend of historic features, thoughtful modern touches, cozy seating, and pleasant background music that makes you want to linger. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive without being overbearing – great service that adds to the laid-back vibe. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick caffeine fix or settling in for a longer stay, you feel looked after. If you’re in Ashbourne (or heading to the Peak District), do yourself a favour and stop at BEAR. Great coffee, dog-friendly charm, beautiful surroundings, and the kind of friendly welcome that keeps you coming back. Highly recommended – I’ll definitely be returning!”

  “It's like a cool London cafe/bar but nicer! Managed by Luke, all the staff are friendly and courteous (they even lower the music on request!). Dairy free cakes to die for and the best coffee in Derbyshire - try a Long Black (leaves an Americano as a poor cousin). Lots of natural light and big windows in the front to watch the world go by. Right in the center of Ashbourne so everything is nearby and parking is 3 mins walk away. What's not to love and like...”

  “Best food we have ever eaten. My 10 year old said her pancakes were the nicest ever, my husband had the house cheeseburger and it hands down best any other burger he’s ever eaten. I had the hot honey chicken tenders and the hummus plate. Both absolutely delicious. The smoothies were so tasty too! We aren’t too local, but will definitely be visiting again. The service is brilliant too, all the staff are so friendly and accommodating!”

  “Visited this Bear branch based on a reccomendation for mothers day. A special thanks to the gent who secured us a table as we had not booked. All day breakfast unfortunately did not deliver as expected as the food was lukewarm at best. The bacon was chewy not crispy which suggests it was not fresh. The sausage (one of my fav items) was just too dry not just mine but also my partners too. Price vs Quality was not great...but we were hungry so continued. The lattes were good and probably the only saving grace here.”

  “Stopped off here after travelling up from Birmingham for a walk in Dovedale. The food was delicious, especially the Christmas cheese fondue and chilli sprouts! Staff were super friendly, great drinks choice, would definitely recommend. Please open a place in/near Birmingham urgently!!! 🤩🤩🤩”
