About Bar eS Ambleside
Bar eS Ambleside is a Mexican tapas restaurant and bar on St Mary's Lane in Ambleside, open daily in the evenings only. The menu is built around small plates for sharing, and an extensive vegan menu extends to refried bean nachos. Taco Tuesdays add meaty taco options to the week. Among the other plates are gambas pil pil and a pulled beef enchilada. A cocktail list and a beer selection run alongside the food. Servers suggest four to six dishes between two people.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the nachos, praised alongside the patatas bravas, salt and pepper squid, gambas pil pil, spare ribs and calamari, with the beef quesadilla earning both rave notes and one lukewarm one. Close behind are the pulled beef enchilada, mushroom soft tacos and refried bean nachos from the vegan menu, and strong margaritas and well made cocktails. Staff are described as friendly and helpful, with servers explaining the ordering and recommending dishes. Several say four to six plates suit two people, portions are big for tapas, and food arrives at varied times, freshly made. The main caveat is demand: one diner found the kitchen struggling on a busy night, another missed a table on a first visit, and a few suggest booking. One reviewer called the beef quesadilla not very flavourful, wanting more spice and cheese. One party was told in advance the table was needed back early and did not feel rushed.

“Absolutely fabulous find - head down the alley and you won't be disappointed. The vegan menu was extensive and absolutely delicious. The mushroom soft tacos and refried bean nachos were superb and the margaritas were great. My meat-eating partner was equally impressed!”

“Amazing tapas! Great food friendly service and buzzing atmosphere. Definitely worth a look as an alternative to many of the standard pub food options”

“We popped in as a walk-in and grabbed one of the last tables. It was super busy as the kitchen seemed to be struggling but the food was worth the wait. Great selection and tasted amazing. Would recommend booking if we were to go back. We ordered 5 items and it was the ideal number for 2 people.”

“Loved our visit to Bar eS. The dishes we had were all excellent and tasted really fresh. Great selection of beer and cocktails, loved the Bakewell Sour. Relaxed atmosphere and the staff were super friendly and helpful. One of best meals we’ve had in a while. Recommend getting the pulled beef Enchilada.”

“Delicious food. Friendly service. Good value and portion sizes. I would definitely return next time I am in the area. In particular we enjoyed the nachos, gambas pil pil, spare ribs, and calamari. The beef quesadilla was ok but not very flavourful, could do with some more spices and more cheese.”
