Customer Review Summary

Beef brisket is the dish reviewers return to, one calling it so tender it needed no knife and another ordering it every time, with braised brisket and mash also named. Close behind are the Borders Pie, cod loin, fish and chips, and a Sunday lunch. Reviewers praise the varied menu, wine list and friendly staff, and one says the team brought water for a large dog.

“This review is for the "pub with food". Wow. We managed to squeeze in only because someone else had just finished so we recommend booking but it definitely worth a visit. Really varied menu and portions were large and the food excellent. Large wine list at decent prices, a decent choice of beers. Friendly and efficient staff. Definitely recommend this pub for a meal. We had chilli and rice, and braised brisket with mash.”

“Dropped in by chance for something to eat at lunchtime. Very welcoming, with dog too! Food was ace; hearty and good value. Pint of Alnwick gold very nice too. Highly recommended. Put it this way the brisket of beef didn’t need a knife, it was so tender!”

“Amazing, delicious food and great service. The staff were excellent, and very accommodating with our large dog (bringing water over). I had the Borders Pie (lamb and haggis with root veg) and the others in our party had Cod Loin and Fish & chips and there were 3 clean plates and full bellies as we all enjoyed the superbly cooked food so much. We look forward to coming back again. Thank you!”
  • Les Turner
“Not sure if I've reviewed this place before, big mistake if i did as it is now so popular. The Sunday Lunch is second only to that my wife and I make. But we didn't have to make it and the service is excellent. Beef Brisket every time for me but every plate I saw looked just as good and was consumed.”
  • Steve Dawson (Diz)
“Only ate here, didn't stay. Great, wholesome food, mostly locally sourced. Varied menu, very good wine list, excellent staff and interesting decor. Very popular with locals which is always a good sign. Loved it and came back the next night too. Highly recommended 👌”
