About Willoughby Arms
The Willoughby Arms is a pub on Church Ln in the village of Willoughby, near Alford. The village is the birthplace of John Smith, the explorer of the United States, and that history draws American visitors who come to see where he was born. The pub keeps a wide range of cask beers, so ale drinkers have plenty to choose from. A beer garden sits at the rear, and a smoking shelter is set aside for smokers. The kitchen serves food and puts on Sunday roasts. Dogs are welcome, which suits visitors who bring their pets along on a village walk.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what most reviewers come for, with the chicken and ham pie, the beef roast and the Yorkshire puddings named among the dishes. Diners praise the portions and the vegetables, and one family describes desserts like a gran's Sunday pudding. Others single out the chicken and bacon carbonara, homemade apple crumble and the chips. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and one reviewer says they made a fussy eater's favourite Yorkshire puddings. Visitors from outside the village mention feeling like regulars, and one stopped in to watch the football and notes the live music through the year. The caveats are specific. One group found the beef a little overcooked and received only two small roast potatoes, and they were told extra could not be bought. Another reviewer found the barmaid unwelcoming to a pregnant fiancée and was told for the second time that no food was available at 7pm. Reviewers also say weekends are best booked, and one table was ready on arrival for a party of seven. Another notes that a second meat costs extra.

“Honestly the best pub grub we have ever had! We were staying in the village and decided to try here on our first night. The most amazing chicken and bacon carbonara and delicious home made apple crumble. Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff. Highly recommend.”

“A very nice pub with lovely staff and dog friendly. We went for Sunday lunch as a group of four and three had the beef which was a little bit overcooked for our liking but the chicken and ham pie was really tasty and a good helping of vegetables. Only two small roast potatoes too. A couple more would have been appreciated. We did ask to buy some more but that wasn't possible. We will return though to try some of the other things on the menu.”

“Uninvititing. The barmaid was deliberately unwelcoming to the point of rudeness. Particularly mean considering my fiance is 8 months pregnant. No food at 7pm. 2nd time I've been told this. I am from Lincolnshire and was keen to show off my heritage to my girlfriend. I was embarrassed. Maybe ok if you live in the village but a mean, sorry place for anyone else.”
