About filo Coffee House

On John St in Aberdeen, filo Coffee House is an ethical cafe that puts support for people sleeping rough in the city at the center of what it does. Its pay-it-forward coffee lets a customer pay for someone else's drink. The kitchen and counter cover bakery goods, brunch and lunch, with a bacon roll, a sausage roll and a brownie served alongside coffee and tea. Vegan options are available on request. The building also works as an events space, so the cafe serves as a meeting point as well as a place to eat and drink. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, with one describing a server who made sure everything was vegan friendly. Among the food, a flatbread, a bacon roll, soup, a mince and tatties pie, a sausage roll and brownies get named, and several mention tasty desserts and bakery goods. Coffee and tea draw praise too, including an iced coffee and a decaf one reviewers rate highly. Families note a toy box and a sofa corner for children, and others describe the quiet space as good for conversation or studying with strong internet and power sockets. One reviewer points to the option of paying forward a coffee for someone else. The main complaint comes from a reviewer who found the wait long even though the place was nearly empty and the staff disorganised. Another said a drink tasted like warm milk and was not hot. Several close on the value of a bacon roll and coffee, and on staff who start to recognise regulars.

“We visited this café around lunchtime and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t too busy or noisy, the staff were very friendly and the food was nice and reasonably priced. It’s a great place for a quick lunch, coffee or tea, but I especially liked the calm atmosphere. It’s a nice spot to meet someone and have a proper conversation without having to shout over the noise. I think it would even work well for a casual business meeting, especially if you’re looking for somewhere relaxed and not too formal. Overall, a lovely, quiet and comfortable place.”

“What a great wee spot! Bacon roll and a coffee for £6? Great value, and great taste! Many places skimp on the decaf quality, but filo knocked it out the park. I'll be back soon!”
