About Forsythia NYC

Forsythia NYC is an Italian restaurant on Stanton Street in New York, turning out housemade pasta and creative mains in a setting that includes outdoor seating. Much of its identity comes from the kitchen's focus on handmade pasta, which anchors the menu alongside composed Italian dishes. The Agnolotti Di Coda Alla Vaccinara is a signature pasta preparation, Suppli appears as a starter option, and Focaccia rounds out the menu as a baked offering. The format is a sit-down restaurant where guests can dine outside when the season allows.

Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently praise the handmade pasta, with the agnolotti singled out as rich and comforting and the pappardelle described as silky, while the rabbit ragu and stuffed squash blossoms also draw high marks. Service is frequently called warm and attentive, with several reviewers noting that servers walk them through the menu and offer wine and spirit pairings. The focaccia is mentioned as fresh and flaky. A recurring complaint is an automatic 22% service charge that some diners say was not disclosed upfront, and one reviewer who came as a single diner at the bar says the imposed fee was the reason they will not return. A few also note that certain dishes, including the ragu, could use more seasoning, and one mentions the host felt cold on arrival.

What a lovely quaint, small Italian place. We found this place by mistake, and I’m so happy we did! Jacob, who is the owner is attentive and super accommodating and also very knowledgeable. The bartender was great. Wine was delicious and the food was absolutely divine. The pasta with tomatoe sauce was 💥 the peas salad insane and the tiramisu was so so delicious. A gem and we would be back!

Forsythia perfectly captures what has become increasingly frustrating about parts of downtown NYC dining: charging luxury prices for an aggressively average experience. …

The appetizer were amazing. The ragu had a very strong flavor, so much so that I couldn’t finish it. The carbonara was good, and I also tried the agnolotti, which I liked, but I could only eat a few pieces. The cacio e pepe was good as well. There is a 22% service fee. Not my favorite Italian place in the city, I think it to expensive.

I was a walk-in, and sat at the bar. The host was a bit cold (I was the only person whose coat he didn’t offer to take on a rainy night), but my server was fantastic. So kind and attentive. He took the time to walk me through the menu and suggest things I might like. The food was well made and tasty. The only thing I really didn’t like was having a 22% tip imposed on me at the end as a surprise. I was a single diner. I could understand 18% as part of a group (as is the norm) but since when was 22% the baseline? Won’t be back because of this. If you really need to pay your staff better, perhaps raise the prices on your menu so at least diners know what they’re in for.

Cute little spot with very attentive service. We got the agnolotti and the ragu. The pasta was very well made and super thin. Both dishes could have used a little more seasoning to make them pop.
