Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently single out the bacon wrapped dates as a standout, describing them as a complex, salty, sweet, and spicy highlight of the menu. The lamb burger and the hummus also draw frequent praise, with several reviewers calling the hummus a great value, though one diner found the short rib version less impressive than the classic. The pita earns specific mention for being soft, fluffy, and warm. Service is repeatedly described as friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, with staff often credited for making solo diners feel welcome. The atmosphere is widely appreciated as warm, lively, and intimate, with a communal, family-style setup that encourages sharing. A recurring note among reviewers is the high price point, with several describing the meal as one of the most expensive in Chicago and feeling the value does not always match the cost, particularly for solo diners. A few also mention specific dishes missing the mark, such as a dry raspberry rose brioche bun and a burnt honey chocolate pie that one reviewer found actively bad.

You will not regret this visit. You must get the chorizo stuffed dates and the lamb burger. They’re both such an experience. Truly fantastic and complex in flavour. The staff are kind and knowledgeable and the atmosphere can’t be beat. The patio was lovely.

Their pita is simply delicious! Soft, fluffy, and warm! Hearth baked pita is simply yum! Pizza is yum, spinach and lemon! They balance each other beautifully! The cookies are a combination of sweet and crunch! Too good! Do try and enjoy!

Great Mediterranean food in a lively but intimate setting. Both the small and large plate selections have options for everyone. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us select an amazing wine to pair with our food choices. The environment and food quality will have us coming back.

I came here for brunch during Restaurant Week with my brother and was really looking forward to it, but the experience was a bit underwhelming. We both ordered the raspberry rose brioche bun. The flavor was fine, but it was noticeably dry and reminded me more of a store-bought pastry than something freshly made. The Restaurant Week menu was also more limited than expected. I ordered the lamb burger, which had good flavor overall, but it was very salty, and the same was true for the chips that came with it. Unfortunately, the saltiness took away from the dish. The service, however, was a highlight. They checked our coats when we arrived, and our server was attentive and friendly throughout. The restaurant itself is quite small, but it has a warm, inviting feel with nice wood accents. I wouldn’t recommend this spot specifically for Restaurant Week, but I’d be open to coming back and trying other items on the menu. It’s possible I just didn’t order the right dish this time.

I have been to Avec several times and it never fails to amaze me! Most recently, we enjoyed their restaurant week menu. They went above and beyond to accommodate two separate dietary restrictions (cashew/pistachio allergy and vegetarian). Everything we ate was amazing! The service was excellent as well. Highly recommend to anyone.
