About Il Porcellino

Il Porcellina is an Italian restaurant housed in a casual-chic storefront at 59 W Hubbard St #2 in Chicago, where the menu centers on housemade pastas, Italian specials, and wine. Much of its everyday format comes from pairing a compact, recognizable protein plate with shareable bread service built for two or more diners. The Veal Parmesan anchors the specials list, while the Whole Loaf Garlic Bread and Tuscan Cheese Bread serve as the starter side most tables add alongside pasta orders. Because the room runs on a sit-down service model with a wine list, booking ahead is advised during the dinner window when the indoor seating fills.

Customer Review Summary

Il Porcellino draws consistent praise for its housemade pastas and generous portions, with reviewers repeatedly calling out the lasagna, chicken parmesan, and burrata lasagna as standouts. The whole loaf garlic bread and pesto sauce come up as favorites worth ordering on their own, and several diners highlight the chocolate cake and tiramisu as memorable desserts. Service is frequently described as attentive and accommodating, with staff noted for handling dietary needs, surprising guests with free desserts for birthdays and anniversaries, and offering non alcoholic options when they notice a guest does not drink. The atmosphere is called warm, pleasant, and photo worthy, fitting for celebrations and special nights out. A few reviewers note that the restaurant gets very busy, and several suggest making reservations, especially on weekends. One diner found the Vesuvio potatoes skippable, and another felt the eggplant parm was not worth returning for, but the overall pattern is strong repeat enthusiasm for the food and service.

My first visit to Il Porcellino and everything was outstanding. The garlic bread with clarified butter is a must-order, and the pesto sauce is so good that you should get a side and put it on everything. Every dish was flavorful, well-executed, and clearly made with care. The highlight of the evening was our server, Beatrice B. She was phenomenal—a true class act. Knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely friendly, she made us feel special from start to finish. Her enthusiasm for the menu was contagious and had us wanting to order everything. Exceptional food paired with exceptional service. Can’t wait to come back.

Absolutely loved dining here! The place was completely full even on a weekday, so do make reservations. Prices slightly on the higher side but the food and drinks are worth it. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, fettuccine alfredo, salmon …

il Porcellino was not planned; however, I was so happy the stars aligned to bring us there. Like an amateur I did not have reservations anywhere on a Saturday night and waitlist would have had us waiting hours. However, we were in the …

We really liked this place! It was very busy. The Caesar and calamari were outstanding. My wife really liked her pappardelle noodles. I also thought the lasagna was good, but not quite worth the hype. We really appreciates the free dessert for our anniversary as well as the server noticing I don’t drink alcohol and bringing over a non alcoholic beverage to celebrate. The inside is super cute and not too loud. Very photo worthy. Overall we are glad we stopped by.
