Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently return for the high quality and freshness of the sushi, with the chirashi bowls, amaebi, and hotote singled out as favorites. The shrimp head, offered deep fried or simmered into a miso soup, is a frequently praised touch, and the tempura, particularly the shrimp and seafood tempura, earns repeated praise for being crispy and generous. The sashimi deluxe and tuna nigiri are described as melt in your mouth, and the Yuzu halibut and handrolls are also highlighted. Service is mostly described as friendly and attentive, with one reviewer noting iced green tea refilled without prompting, though a few mention moments where staff could be more informative about the menu or where a promised free hand roll tied to a reservation special was initially denied.

The sushi were very fresh and the flavor was very creative. The quality is hard to find. Then the ten don was surprisingly impressive. At first I thought it looked oily (shiny) but wait it’s glazed with sugar! Made it really enjoyable. The tempuras - shrimp, eel, fish, mushroom and sweet potato are all delicious.

Wow what a gem! The high rating is so well deserved. We got multiple plates and my favorites were one of the tuna nigiri’s currently 2 x 1, it was melt in your mouth! Also the tempura app, the salmon katsu and everything that came with it. The staff is super friendly and attentive, my delicious iced green tea was refilled multiple times which I really appreciated. I’ve been thinking about this place since my visit, can’t wait to return.

Had an amazing dinner here on a Friday night. Had to park a block away at a meter, but felt safe enough at 5pm. We asked to sit at a booth. We were first served hot tea, which seemed like matcha green tea. I ordered seafood tempura which was so crispy hot and delicious and included lobster tail and other high quality seafood plus vegetables. So much I couldn’t finish it all. My husband ordered the sashimi deluxe which came with a bowl of rice. It was melt-in-your-mouth good. There was a shrimp head and they asked if he wanted it deep fried or in soup. He chose soup which was like miso with the shrimp head in it, very tasty. They offered dessert but we were really stuffed from the dinner. The portions were generous. It was a bit over $100 for the two of us but worth it. P.s. Some reviewers said the wait staff was too attentive. I found them to be perfect, there when needed but unobtrusive.

Came on Valentine’s Day, amazing service! They were so kind & attentive despite business. Handrolls are some of the best in LA. Sushi is absolutely delicious and super fresh. Got the sushi set & Yuzu halibut was one of my favorites! New favorite restaurant in little Tokyo. It was reasonably priced too.

Ootoro is certainly a premium experience. With a dark and elegant dining room, the feel is intimate yet sophisticated. …
