  “First time here, and I've been wanting to come for quite a while. I came at an off-hour, 3pm on a Wednesday so parking was fine and no line. And it's free parking too, which is a great plus for LA. Got take out and got only beef dips. The beef was tender, savory, and delicious. The french roll was fresh, soft, and chewy. Gravy really added a lot of flavor to it. I added mustard and it definitely has a good kick. Unfortunately what really holds it back is the amount they give you. I seemed like they gave me about a 1/5 pound or so of beef per sandwich. For the $14.69 they're charging at the moment, I would want more than that. Extra meat is over $10 too. I know beef and things are expensive, but that just seems too high of a price tag to me. The french roll is around 6 inches. And remember that it's really just bread, meat, and gravy. Nothing else in there. While the sandwich was great, there are plenty of places that can do better and/or cheaper.”

  “The atmosphere at Phillipe reminds me of Katz’s in NYC. You line up in a more organized single-file winding line. You look for an open order take, go up and order. Got the double dip beef version of the sandwich. The amount of wetness was good (there is also the ‘wet’—goodness knows how soggy that will make your bread !!). Just a delicious sandwich. Highly recommend you slather on too taste the sauce in squeeze bottles when you sit down. Really makes the sandwich harmonious. The side of potato salad was spot on. This place is three blocks from Chinatown so able to check it out and get some baked goods like egg tart/portuguese style egg tart at Queen’s Bakery.”

  “It's wonderful that they have managed to keep this wonderful establishment going. It feels like a time capsule; servers in 40s uniform, sawdust on the floor, a row of old phone boxes, classic wooden booths, and a fantastic menu from the period. We had the beef and turkey dips and their famous macaroni salad...all delicious.”
