About Maccheroni Republic
Maccheroni Republic is an Italian restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles, serving handmade pastas from a homey space at 332 S Broadway that features a covered patio and a BYO wine policy. The menu centers on house-made pasta, with the Lasagna Di Carne standing as a popular main and the Tiramisu anchoring the dessert side. A dish simply called Perfect also appears among the most-ordered items. The covered patio extends the dining area outdoors, and the BYO wine policy lets guests bring their own bottles to pair with the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently praise the handmade pasta, with gnocchi, lasagna, and seafood pasta singled out as standouts. Diners describe the gnocchi with mushroom ragu and the frutti di mare as loaded and rich, while the lasagna draws attention for its creamy bechamel. Generous portions and reasonable prices come up repeatedly, and the outdoor patio is noted for a relaxed, European feel. A few reviewers mention timing, suggesting early evening arrival helps avoid a line. On the negative side, one diner found the tiramisu disappointing, describing the cream as stiff and overly whipped with no lady fingers, and another called the truffle gnocchi and wild boar pappardelle mid and lacking flavor.

“Here's a comfortable slice of Tuscany served-up with pride. We were turned off by the noise and traffic at Grand Central Market across the street and opted for an evening here on the patio. My generous square of lasagna was exceptional. I was pleased with the culinary twist of creamy bechamel, and the refreshing lemon cello prosecco with fresh mint. Gracie mille!”

“Maccheroni Republic is an absolute gem! The pasta here is some of the best I've ever had fresh, authentic, and full of flavor. The portion sizes were generous and the presentation was beautiful. Service was warm, attentive, and very …”

“With all due respect, this was a very average experience with a high price tag. The wait staff was fine, wait times okay, the food was average. We got the truffle special with gnocchi and the wild boar pappardelle and it was mid. The truffle sauce had a lot of nutmeg flavor, and the boar sauce was lacking flavor. The bill was $75 for two pasta dishes and one cocktail. Pizzeria Republica down the street on Main has an incredible happy hour with some of the best pizza and pasta I’ve had in LA. Go there instead.”

“Came here around 5pm and got seated right away, but by the time we left there was a line. Definitely recommend coming early ⏰ First off, the vibe. Outdoor seating with this slightly European feel, which I honestly did not expect in Downtown LA 🇮🇹✨ It just felt really nice and relaxed. Food came out super fast, which we appreciated. We got the calamari in zimino and the meatballs, and both were great — but also really good value. The calamari portion was generous (lots of squid 🦑), and the meatballs came in a solid portion too, like around 8 pieces. Not small at all. The house salad was kind of a last-minute order because we saw it at the next table and it looked so good… and yeah, no regrets 🥗 Really fresh, nice mix of veggies, just very well put together. For mains, I got the gnocchi and my partner got the frutti di mare pasta 🍝 The flavors were honestly so good. Rich, well-balanced, and just satisfying. I have to say — the seafood pasta was loaded. If you have eaten around LA, you know how rare that is 😭 They were not holding back at all, especially for the price. As for the gnocchi, it was more on the softer side rather than super chewy, but it worked really well with the mushroom ragu. Paired it with house wine and it just made sense 🍷 Finished the whole plate without even realizing. Dessert was the cannoli, and wow… crispy shell, super creamy filling, not too sweet. I almost ordered another one 🥲 Overall, great vibe, great food, and really good prices. Definitely adding this to my “come back and run it again” list 💯”

“Front of house's hospitality was outstanding despite my inexpensive, solo dining. Fiuggi's light, soft sparkling water let my food on Center stage; even the sliced lemon on top added a volatile citrus aroma. The bread had a good contrast: thin crunchy crust, soft crumb, with good olive oil bringing it together. The spinach‑ricotta filled pasta in butter & sage is a magnificent art of gastronomy: soft, pillowy filling, butter (fat) carrying the dairy flavor. Fresh dough was thin but elastic skin, soft filling. Butter & cheese gave creaming effect. I was glad I declined the server's courtesy offer of more cheese: Parmegiano and salt perfectly finished it. The sage was aromatic, present, warm but never bitter or dominating. It was well calibrated; truly skilled. Tiramisu, my favorite dessert was very disappointing, unfortunately. The deep ceramic bowl was my style: the thermal control maintains the whipped cream's texture. But the cream was very stiff, so it stabilizes in the fridge from the productivity aspect. And there was no lady fingers but the thin sponge (it was soaked in espresso at least). I paid $12 for flavored overly whipped cream, basically. This tiramisu was definitely "Do not order item". I gave 20% tip, because everybody else's performance and execution were awesome.”
