About Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is a coffee shop, cafe, and roastery in Phoenix that also operates as a Hawaiian goods store and restaurant, roasting its own beans and serving Hawaiian-grown coffees from a downtown spot at 50 W Jefferson St Ste 170. Much of its character comes from this roaster-forward approach combined with a Hawaiian concept, where single-origin and blended coffees sourced from Hawaii anchor the program alongside food and retail goods that extend the theme beyond a typical coffee bar. The Iced Latte is a popular menu item, while the Three Waves Latte and the Snickerlicous round out the drink lineup with distinct names within the coffee-focused offering. The space supports both quick coffee stops and longer visits, with seating and a cafe format suited to laptop work or casual meals. Hawaiian goods and restaurant-style menu options complement the coffee program, reinforcing the brand’s broader identity as more than a standard neighborhood coffee shop.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently single out the coffee itself as the draw, with the coffee ice cubes repeatedly called out as a favorite detail that keeps iced drinks from watering down. The Hazelnut Hulu, Monkey Mocha, and Three Waves Latte come up by name, and the warmed cinnamon malasada pastry earns praise as a surprisingly tasty Hawaiian style donut. Most describe the staff as friendly and quick, and several say the beans have a smooth, bold flavor that does not need much added milk or sweetener. On the negative side, multiple reviewers flag the breakfast sandwiches as overpriced and underwhelming, with one calling the bacon, egg, and cheddar microwaveable and disappointing for the price. A few also note awkward moments when staff seem more focused on talking among themselves, and one review describes a tense exchange at the counter when an employee showed a customer the door after a misunderstanding about opening time.

“great place but seems like the staff is there to talk to each other which made it awkward”

“I have always preferred my coffee black, but it needs to have flavor on its own. I love coffee beans and grounds from Hawaii, especially from Kona. Once I found this place, I am not going anywhere else. The people who work there always display a positive and outgoing attitude that makes your day that much better.”

“Andy and Vanessa are the most amazing coffee creators everrrrr. I come here 2-3 times a week and they perfect my drink every time. Overall, all staff I have interacted with are quick and friendly. Thank you for making the start of my work day a lot better.”

“For starters I would recommend saving your money on the breakfast sandwiches. The price is overpriced for the portion and is not prep nearly. The coffee is not too bad. Mid. I asked the lady who was taking my order if they had anything with a coconut flavor that was their signature items and she did not respond or suggested anything. Finally, when food was ready it was place on the counter without any notice. A gentleman in front of me was asking if it was bagel and one of those employees just responded to him “this not for you” and walked away.”

“This place is just a sugar fix and not a great coffee location. There are no bathrooms (half mile walk to Fry's if you need to go), little to no outlets and the tables are just dirty. It does not seem like the staff wants to be here and will get annoyed if you ask where the bathroom is. I witnessed staff make fun of a dad for asking about the bathroom because he didn't see a small 6" sign. Totally unnecessary”
