About Grub
Grub is a small cafe and restaurant on Yarburgh Way on the edge of York, a short walk from the Travelodge. The two-person team serves a breakfast menu that includes a full English with toasted bread, hash browns, bacon, sausage, a runny egg and beans, alongside a breakfast gyros and a sausage, egg and hash brown sandwich. Chicken gyros also appear as a regular option, and the house "Karlos Box" anchors the offering. Breakfast is the main draw, led by an English breakfast with crispy hash browns, bacon and a runny egg, and sausages called fantastic. Gyros follow, including a breakfast version and chicken gyros one reviewer found perfectly cooked. Another reported the chicken gyros were mostly burnt, tough skin despite paying extra. “Went to Grub this morning as we were in York. Grub was recommended to us by a member of staff at the Travel Lodge just round the corner. I had an English breakfast. It was really very good, plenty of it too, lovely toasted fresh bread, crispy hash browns, bacon and sausage both very nice, lovely runny egg and good portion of beans. Hubs had a breakfast gyros and was really pleased with it, daughter had a sausage, egg and hash brown sandwich. Again all really enjoyed the food, the hot drinks were equally as good. Nice friendly polite staff and or owners. We checked if dog friendly as took the pooch she was in a buggy, they are dog friendly and we easily got in with the buggy. Next time we are in York we will be coming for breakfast without a shadow or doubt.”

“Absolutely phenomenal place to eat! I’ve been coming here every week for years, and the food is always fresh, top quality, and consistently excellent. The service is second to none, and all of the staff are friendly, welcoming, and go above and beyond. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic meal! Ask for the ‘Karlos Box’ hands down the best thing they do 👍”

“The cafe is a brilliant find on the edge of York near the Travelodge. The food is fantastic and service is very prompt with every effort made to accommodate what you need. The cafe is clean and simple, we had a mix of breakfasts veggie and no veg, all were great. The sausages were fantastic. The only reason I gave 3 star for atmosphere was because it got very busy with orders and the chef and lady serving got very stressed out, almost arguing between themselves and taking it out on the younger staff member. But great food, great service.”
