About Barricane Beach Cafe
Barricane Beach Cafe is a shipping-container cafe on Woolacombe Rise in Woolacombe, set under the cliffs above a shingle and shell beach. The kitchen serves Sri Lankan curry, with a curry night in the evening, and the menu runs to 41 dishes. Curry comes as an Adult Sri Lankan Curry Meal or a Child Sri Lankan Curry Meal, and people carry their plates down to the beach to eat. The Sweet Potato Falafels sit on the same menu, and an Argentinian ciabatta with beef, onions and peppers is another option. Drinks include fresh pineapple juice and Sri Lankan iced coffee. Dogs are welcome. Food is ordered in a queue, and there are no toilets on site. The town centre is a 10-minute walk away.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the evening Sri Lankan curry, eaten on the beach at sunset, and several went back for a second night. They call it delicious, with well balanced spices and crunchy veg, and one family shared a child's portion between two young children who enjoyed it. Close behind is the Argentinian ciabatta with beef, onions and peppers, described as absolutely delicious and freshly cooked. The fresh pineapple juice, the Sri Lankan iced coffee and a cream tea also get mentions, and the food arrives on proper plates with cutlery. The recurring complaint is the queue to order, which one reviewer says stretched up the hill and calls their only complaint. Others say it moved quickly, and one found the curry portion for adults smaller than expected for the price. One reviewer notes there are no toilets on site and that the town centre is a ten minute walk away. Several mention the sea views from the few tables and from the shingle, and one reviewer suggests bringing a beer down to the beach with the takeaway curry.

“What an amazing place/experience. The cafe in a shipping container under the cliffs at the head of a narrow beach made up of tiny stones. In the stone are cowerie stones and small pieces of sea glass if you look carefully. Queue up for a take away curry and it can be quite a long queue that's my only complaint. Still no pain no gain. Bring a beer, take your curry down to the beach, watch the tide go out see the sun set. This is a pretty magical experience. It is important to note there are no toilets here you will need to walk 10 mins to the town centre.”

“Popped here after a day on Woolacombe beach and it was a fab feed! Deliciously spicy, excellent atmosphere and would highly recommend. My only wish was we could swim before/after but our kids and dogs would not allow it!”

“We went on our last evening to try the Sri Lankan curry, it was very busy but the service was very fast and we got our food reasonably quick to say how many people were waiting! We took a gamble of our 3&4 yr olds eating the curry as well but they had one child's portion between them and enjoyed it! The portion size for adults wasnt as big as we expected for the price but it was very delicious! The view was fab and we felt like we were abroad 🌞”

“We are regulars at Barricane Beach and the Café and it’s honestly one of our absolute favourite places in the beautiful Devon that we are lucky enough to call home. The food is always delicious, fresh, full of flavour and something we look forward to every visit. The location is simply stunning, with incredible beach and sea views and the relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere makes it the perfect place to unwind. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon or a peaceful evening by the coast, Barricane Beach never disappoints. The beach and its café may be small in size, but they prove that the smallest places often leave the biggest impression. A true North Devon gem that we keep coming back to again and again.”

“This place was recommended to us by a number of people so I had to give it a try, and I'm glad I did! We didn't have to wait to be served and waited less than 10 minutes for our food. We ordered a 3 curries, which were all fantastic. Sitting on the beach, eating a curry, what more could you want! This is a must try spot for a relaxing curry!”
