About San Pietro Windermere Restaurant

On Birch St in Windermere, San Pietro serves classic Italian food, from pasta to pizza, alongside beer, wine and cocktails. Pasta dishes such as arrabbiata come in smaller and large portions, and the kitchen also turns out chicken Milanese, arancini and mini beef lasagne, with tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding to finish. The cocktail list includes the Bangkok Gin alongside the usual beer and wine. Tables are served rather than counter order, and the restaurant takes walk-ins rather than online bookings, with phone reservations only answered once the doors open. Dogs are welcome in the dining room.

Customer Review Summary

Diners repeatedly point to the pasta dishes as the draw, from the arrabbiata with chicken to a wife's pasta order singled out for praise, with the arancini and mini beef lasagne starters also called out as standouts alongside the chicken Milanese and homemade tiramisu. Several describe the space as cozy and note the service as excellent or attentive, with one visit built around a grandmother's birthday celebration and another highlighting the cocktails, including the Bangkok Gin. A few raise value concerns, including one diner surprised that a smaller pasta portion cost less than expected relative to the large and who called the food average despite the restaurant's awards. Booking is a recurring snag, with one party unable to reserve online and unable to reach the restaurant by phone until opening time. One reviewer separately describes being greeted coldly and perceiving warmer treatment toward other customers, raising a discrimination concern that the reviewer says was mishandled when addressed publicly.

“We enjoyed both dinners at San Pietro. The service was excellent and food was good. My wife enjoyed the pasta Special mention to the 90s Italian music”

“Celebrating our grandmother’s birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. It was very cozy. Would definitely come again. Works for families, friends and dates. It didn’t matter what you ordered, all plates looked delicious. The beef main plate looked the best but supposedly would need a starter to complement.”

“UPDATE following the owner’s response: I am genuinely shocked by the response from the owner, particularly because he appears to have completely mistaken me for another customer. To be absolutely clear: I do not have a husband who left a review, I did not make a reservation for four people, I did not arrive with a pram or a young child, I did not call the restaurant beforehand, and I had no interaction whatsoever regarding high chairs. None of the incident described in the owner’s response involved me. I visited the restaurant alone. My original review was based solely on what I personally experienced during that visit: I felt that the way I was greeted and spoken to was noticeably colder than the way the same member of staff interacted with white customers around me. I deliberately described what I observed and how it made me feel rather than claiming to know her intentions. Instead of asking what happened or addressing my actual experience, the owner has apparently confused me with an entirely different customer and publicly called me “disgusting”, “shameful”, suggested that I “have issues”, and told me to delete my review “if [I] have a conscience”. Ironically, the owner’s response has reinforced my concerns about how customers who raise negative experiences are treated here. I have no reason to remove an honest account of my experience, particularly when the response attempting to discredit it is based on an incident involving somebody else entirely. I stand by my original review below, and I expect the owner to acknowledge his mistake and apologise for the inaccurate and disrespectful remarks directed at me. —————— Unfortunately, I had a very uncomfortable experience here and ended up leaving shortly after arriving. The Asian staff member who greeted me was noticeably cold and unwelcoming towards me. What made the experience particularly uncomfortable was that I then observed her interacting with white customers in a completely different manner — she was noticeably warmer, friendlier and much more welcoming towards them. Of course, I cannot know the reason behind the difference in treatment, but the contrast was obvious enough that I felt singled out and discriminated against. As an Asian customer, it was a very unpleasant feeling and made me uncomfortable enough that I decided not to stay and eat at the restaurant. Regardless of the reason, customers should be treated with the same basic level of courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.”

“Very average food, not sure how they’ve won all the awards. Was also very surprised that a smaller portion of the pasta dish was £15 when the large portion was £18. Did not really find it value for money, sorry. Very nice service though and I like the look and feel of the place.”

“A fantastic meal, beautifully presented and the most fantastic flavours. We paired our meal with some beautiful cocktails, the Bangkok Gin is a must!”
