About The Varini Billinge - Speciality Coffee

The Varini Billinge - Speciality Coffee is a cafe in Wigan, on Rainford Rd, where American pancakes are made on the premises and the chefs are visible while they cook. A special board changes the menu, and the food is mostly brunch-style. Savoury choices include salmon and cream cheese toasties and scrambled eggs, served both as a lunch dish and in a toastie. Coffee comes as an oat flat white or a cappuccino in a single cup size, with syrup available as an add-on. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

The main complaints are about cost and pacing. One regular finds the coffee dear next to nearby cafes, with only one size and an extra charge for syrup. One visit went badly: a long wait for drinks to be taken, then a further wait for scrambled eggs and a toastie, while a later-seated couple was served first. Only once staff were approached did the drinks arrive.

“I’ve been here a lot over to years. Always consistently great food and service. The quality of the coffee is excellent and I always find something new on the menu. Special board always handy to mix things up. I’ve sometimes walked past after dropping kids off at school and not open yet. Could do with opening hours notice updating outside”

“We went for breakfast Saturday morning. Quiet when we got there but got busy by the time we left. Really fresh food, great quality and really good service.”
  • Tracey
“We came to Varini for lunch. I had a salmon and cream cheese toasties, and my daughter had avocado with eggs and hash browns. I found the salmon toasties to be so flavoursome. We both enjoyed our food. I would definitely come here again. Price wise I feel the cost reflected the quality. The chefs are visible while cooking which is always good to see.”
  • Lesley Dorian
“After a short wait for a table we waited 20 minutes for drinks order to be taken and the waitress said she would be right back to take our food order, after a further 15 minutes our drinks had not arrived and our food order had not been taken. When staff were approached our drinks came, but it took a further 25 minutes for our food to arrive. Far too long for scrambled eggs and a toastie, the kitchen was busy, but a couple seated next to us who arrived 20 minutes after us were served their food before us. Front of house is not organised and lets this place down as the food was good, I would not receommend.”
  • E M
“I come in here quite often; the place itself is nice and the staff are warm and welcoming. The food is great quality with lovely sized portions and the coffee tastes great too. My only small complaint would be that the coffee could be a bit cheaper. It’s £4.50 and then an extra 50p if you want a syrup. Other places nearby cost £3.50 and then an extra 30p for syrup, and the quality is just as good. They only do one size too. The £5 for a coffee does add up over the month if you’re coming regularly.”
