About M&S Café
M&S Café is a cafe in Warrington on Europa Blvd, serving since 1935 and open daily. Customers order at on-screen machines, and a serving hatch handles questions about the dishes. Staff then bring food and drinks to the table, so there is no waiting at the counter for a tray. The queue for tables is separate from the queue for ordering, and lunchtime usually brings a line. The menu covers barista-made coffees and iced drinks, breakfast rolls and toasted sandwiches, with cakes and pastries alongside. Tea comes with milk, and sugar sachets are handed out by the number you ask for.

Customer Review Summary
The screen-based ordering system is what reviewers raise most, and most of them dislike it. Diners describe a McDonalds-style screen where dishes are hard to identify, confusion over separate queues for tables and ordering, and people held back from ordering while machines sat free. One reviewer says a rainbow cake never arrived because the machine had not marked it out of stock, and a fork had to be fetched afterward. Another waited half an hour for a breakfast tea and a bottle of peach iced tea. Several worry about older customers who seem lost without face-to-face service. Cleanliness is close behind, with reports of uncleared tables, including seven left for over half an hour, and cold coffee that stayed cold after being reheated. One reviewer reports a reheated-tasting toasted sandwich, while another praises the toasted sandwiches and finds the on-screen images clear. A few call the food good, and one gives a short recommendation. Another reviewer had to specify how many sugar sachets they wanted rather than take the bowl.

“Filthy dirty cafe. Previous people's orders left on most tables. No staff making any planed attempt to clear said tables. This is a horrible, unpleasant place to dine or have a coffee.”

“I ordered a slice of rainbow cake, everything was delivered to the table except the cake I had ordered. Turns out the machine hadnt updated to make the cake unavailable when out of stock. No worries, went in and had to choose a cake I didn’t really want but then they forgot about it despite us continuing to ask. Anyway after nearly 15-20 minutes finally a girl had come over with the cake after being asked for the second time. No fork was brought over lol, I had to go find one. It’s just frustrating.”

“Atrocious service. Waited half an hour for a breakfast tea and a bottle of peach iced tea. Staff preparing drinks had to assist with sending orders out as service staff were clearly trying to ‘look busy’ but not actually doing very much. It was appalling to be honest and we doubt very much we’ll be back. Please bring back face-to-face service as our experience has changed for the worse ever since the contactless service was brought in.”

“Smooth ordering process, very nice toasted sandwiches. Good milk availability for tea. Didn’t need to ask the serving hatch people anything as the images on screen are very clear. My only irk is the policy of denying customers the liberty of keeping the sugar sachet bowl — I quite wanted to keep my sugar addiction private, but now I have to specify the number of sachets I want (it’s a number between 5 and 7).”

“So poor I don’t bother with this anymore and go elsewhere. In comparison, the cafe at the Cheshire Oaks store is far better. Mind you, it could be worse - Liverpool One!”
