Quick info
About Golden Fish Inn
Golden Fish Inn is a fish and chips takeaway in Warminster, at 4 George St. The kitchen cooks to order, and the fish and chips come with a choice of cod, haddock or plaice. Pie and chips and cheesy chips sit on the same menu. Meals go out in cardboard boxes rather than paper wrapping, and the portions are large, so the boxes are too. The shop has also catered an order for a 45-person event, which suits bigger group orders. It opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips cooked to order is what most reviewers return for, with cod named most often, followed by haddock and plaice, all described as fresh and crispy. Diners praise generous portions, lovely chips, and batter that is not too heavy or greasy. One reviewer credits the cardboard boxes, rather than thin paper, for keeping everything from going soggy, and another says a catering order for a large event arrived hot and on time. Pie and chips, a fish cake with mushy peas, and battered sausage also get mentions, and staff are repeatedly called friendly. The criticism is sharper but less frequent. One reviewer found the scampi raw and the cheesy chips topped with rubbery melted cheese, and said the bill came to more than the menu showed. Another, remarking that the owners have changed hands again, described a cod and chips with more batter than fish and a greasy finish. On a happier note, one server brought a plaice order out to a couple waiting in their car.

“We sometimes call in here on our way home from our sons and are never disappointed. My husband ordered plaice last night and we waited in the car. The young women serving very kindly brought them out to us when it was ready. Lovely people, lovely food and excellent customer service. Well done.”
