About The Malt at Landywood
The Malt at Landywood is a family restaurant on Holly Lane in Walsall, set inside a pub with a bar and a separate restaurant area. Its pizza menu includes a Bengal lamb pizza and an Italian sausage and blue cheese pizza, so diners who want pizza can choose lamb or sausage with blue cheese as the topping. Beyond the pizzas, the kitchen cooks steak served with red wine sauce, and lamb turns up in other dishes on the menu. Vegetarian options are listed as well. The bar makes cocktails, including a tequila cocktail.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish reviewers raise most, with one calling the steak and red wine sauce exceptional and another naming it the best steak they had ever eaten. Close behind are the venison, compared by one diner to Michelin star cooking, the lamb rump, the duck and the monkfish. Halloumi fries and pizzas, including the Italian sausage and blue cheese and the Bengal lamb, also earn praise, and vegetarians describe their choices as impressive or still really nice. Puddings and cocktails get a mention too, with one saying they would return just for the puddings. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, with one party made to feel like part of the family and another helped to a last minute table. The complaints are modest. One reviewer felt main meals were overpriced, and another waited nearly 25 minutes for dessert after finishing mains. Several note the place was fully booked or only just had a table, and one suggests booking in advance. One diner at the bar was told in advance that bar food arrives all at once.

“Lovely pub, friendly staff, good selection of drinks, food is very good however, in my opinion the main meals are £5 over priced, definitely worth a visit though”

“Superb. Genuinely. 👨🍳’s💋 We came here on a whim at the last minute with no reservation, and were seated at the bar as the restaurant was fully booked. From the moment we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful décor, the friendly staff, and the fresh, crisp drinks. The pub itself is spotless, incredibly cosy, and wonderfully warm, with plenty of parking available. When we ordered, the staff explained that food served in the bar is brought out all at once, unlike in the restaurant where courses are timed separately. They managed expectations perfectly, and we were more than happy with that arrangement. We started with the halloumi fries, which arrived piping hot, perfectly coated in a light, crispy batter and served with a delicious sauce that complemented them beautifully. My partner ordered the fish and chips, while I went for the Italian sausage and blue cheese pizza. Both dishes were outstanding in both presentation and flavour. We were genuinely blown away by this place and cannot wait to return. We also overheard the table next to us raving about the Sunday lunch, so that is definitely on the agenda for our next visit. 10/10 - we couldn’t praise the whole experience highly enough. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻”

“what a (hidden) gem. We had a wonderful lunch - my friend's duck was superb! I'm veggie so a bit limited for choice but still really nice - as for the puddings: wow. We would return just for those. The prices were quite acceptable and the staff lovely. We will return. More than once 🤞”

“Once again The Malt has failed to disappoint, from the second you walk in to when you leave this place has been faultless every time. Popped in for an evening meal and everything was spot on, great atmosphere, super service and fantastic food. Ordered from the new menu and each dish was perfectly cooked and very flavourful, the lamb rump come highly recommended 👍🏽”
