About Toby Carvery Norton Canes

Toby Carvery Norton Canes serves British carvery-style roasts on Watling St in Cannock, with meat carved to order at a serving station alongside mash, Yorkshire puddings, mac and cheese, and vegetables. Diners queue for their plates, and a buzzer system lets the team know when a table is ready. Breakfast is also served, with refillable cups on offer. A bar area operates separately for drinks, and a loyalty rewards app carries meal offers for regular visits. The dining room includes a fireplace, and step-free access at the entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. High chairs are available for families with young children, and outdoor seating extends the space for those who prefer to eat outside. Takeaway and delivery options let diners eat off site. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are recommended. On-site parking is available for those driving in.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often focus on the carvery meat itself, and the verdict splits sharply. Several describe running short on staples like mash, Yorkshire puddings, and mac and cheese during busy Sunday sittings, with one recalling a manager admitting "they hadn't done enough covers," and others noting thin or fatty meat, dry Yorkshire puddings, or cartilage in the lamb. Drinks left forgotten at the bar, long carvery queues of around 30 minutes, and dirty tables that diners had to clear themselves also recur, alongside one account of toilets in poor condition with broken doors. Against this, other visits describe the food as faultless and tasty, with praise for the refillable cups, the vegetable selection, and staff, including one greeter and one waiter singled out by name in reviews, who arranged a Baileys dessert and reassured a vegetarian diner worried about cross-contamination with fresh utensils. A large breakfast group of over twenty reported clean areas throughout and returning for a third visit.

“Stopped off to visit my Father in law on our way up from S. Wales to Yorkshire for a holiday. A chance to celebrate father's Day and fuel up for our on going journey. …”

“Arrived at the venue first thing in morning. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Food was at a decent quality. Though the bacon was over done and stuck together. At 8 am the chefs whites looked as if he done a week's worth of shifts in it. Absolutely covered in stains. The property was well maintained until you entered the toilets. Where damage to the walls. Wallpaper missing and even lighting fitting without a bulb above the sink in the male toilets. If you have any for of arachnophobia. Do not go into the toilet. As there are cobwebs galore. Sad to see such a potentially great establishment fall to the way side.”

“Over priced, NO flavour to the susauges (other than oil and water) or the oyher meat, very fattie serving given, Yorkshire pudding so dry they were flakie ! Veg pass done, placed to sit in the isle right next to the que for the carvey so very much on display . Paid over £48 (with a code for kids eat for a £1)for 2 adults and 1 child to eat that, or should i say pick .I should of complained but I didn't want a scene as im on holiday. Honestly the worst carvey I've ever had and I hope the staff realised when the only empty things were our drinking glasses. Just not worth it and ruined out last meal in this area.”
  • Candice Clews
“Visited for a birthday meal. Fantastic service throughout our visit, particularly from Lisa who was very kind, hard working, and friendly to communicate with. Despite the restaurant being busy, and her managing several tables, she took our orders quickly and didn't keep us waiting. She is a credit to your team. Food was great, very tasty and nice, clean and tidy inside the building. Thank you”
