About Anchor Brook Cafe

Set in the middle of an industrial estate, Anchor Brook Cafe is a cafe on Westgate in Walsall that opens early and closes right after the lunchtime rush, which suits workers wanting breakfast before a shift or a meal in the middle of the day. Breakfasts and lunches form the mainstay of the menu. Customers order at the counter rather than booking, and food can also be ordered online. The interior is larger than the frontage suggests, with plenty of seating, and a step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without help. High chairs are on hand for families bringing young children. Seating outside at the side of the building gives the option of eating in the open air, though it has no cover from the weather. The cafe runs Monday to Saturday during the daytime and stays closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is the draw here, with regulars calling them proper breakfasts and one describing dropping in for one while a car sat in a nearby workshop. Close behind is the counter staff, repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming even when the place is busy, which several say it usually is. The burgers get singled out as divine, and one reviewer notes the room is far bigger inside than it looks, with clean seating and an uncovered outdoor area. Two recurring complaints carry real weight. Several mention how cold it gets inside, one counting a single heater in a large room. Others describe a slide in the food itself: one reports oily cooking and low quality looking bacon that left them feeling unwell, while another details a bacon and tomato sandwich on unbuttered bread defrosted under the hot lights, bacon that tasted like it had sat in a hot cupboard, tinned tomatoes and having to pour their own coffee. One suggests arriving early, since the cafe tends to close right after the lunchtime rush.

“Had a bacon and tomato sandwich, bread had been defrosted under the hot lights un buttered , bacon tasted like it had sat in the hot cupboard for hours spoon full of microwaved tinned tomatoes and i had to make my own coffee for £6 kills me to say it but go to Wetherspoons it’s far better and cheaper”

“Decided to pop in for breakfast today whilst my car was in a workshop. Very friendly staff and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely recommend!”
  • Nicky S
“Is actually one of my favourite places to order breakfast from. Usually order online too but recently the food has been abit too oily and the bacon looks like it is of a low quality, actually has made me feel abit unwell after eating it but maybe that could also be due to something else. Restaurants needs to start using less oil when cooking foods, it’s so unhealthy!”
