About The Wee Hurrie
The Wee Hurrie is a fish and chips takeaway on Harbour Rd in Troon, served from a spot attached to a harbour seafood market. Each order comes with a vibrating buzzer, so customers can wait in the car or watch the harbour for seals until the food is ready. The menu is fish-focused, built around cod, monkfish and salmon fishcakes. The takeaway opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. Popular items sometimes sell out late in the day, and a queue can form.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for very fresh fish and chips from a counter attached to a seafood market, with monkfish and salmon fishcakes named as flavourful and one diner calling the batter light and crisp. Close behind are the vibrating buzzer that lets customers wait in the car and the seals by the boats. A chicken burger and the dip served with the fish also get praise, and staff are called friendly and lovely. Value and consistency divide opinion. One reviewer says the cod tasted like whiting, with greasy chips and half a portion of fish. Another found the scampi soggy with the batter falling off and the chips undercooked, and a third found the cajun spice overpowering and the portions small for the cost. Others note there is no toilet, no seating beyond a couple of standing tables where birds pester diners, no battered sausage or cheese for chips, and popular items selling out late in the day. One order that arrived without its chips was put right with an apology once the customers drove back.

“I thought a whitby fish supper couldn't be beaten until I tried the Wee Hurrie. 10 out of 10 from me. Friendly staff, after paying you get a remote buzzer that allows you to sit in car till it's ready. Once it vibrates you can go and collect your order. Well organised. I'll be back”

“Nice wee chippy just off the port in Troon, kind of tucked away in a corner of the dockyards rather than out on the main street. Food was very nice, tried the salmon fishcakes and the monkfish both of which were very fresh and flavourful, chips were good also and not of the overly greasy soggy chippy kind. Parking is available but seems quite busy and they will frequently sell out of popular items by late day so best kept in mind.”

“Absolutely amazing fish and chips, best one we’ve ever had! The dip that came with it was so good as well. Nice service as well and such a cool place where you can spot seals!! Definitely recommend! :)”

“One of my favourite places ever for a treat. If you're into maritime lifestyle ⚓🦭 and like a GOOD hearty meal of fish & chips ( we didn't try the other meals available, yet), that's the place to treat yoself and those who'd love it with you 🥰 Generous portions, well affordable, delicious, fresh "to the bone", all made and served with love. Some informative placards about marine life 🐬🦭🦅🐠 and a bit of history on exhibit, with historic harbour equipment maintained beautifully at the premises for those with a keen eye 🤩 Not recommended at extreme weather for vulnerable people as no awning available ⚠️ Also no bathroom, so perhaps a visit at Morrisons beforehand 🚻♿ This meal at this spot is worth it all, i hope you make the opportunity to visit and enjoy as much as we did 😙👌🏼”

“OK so my photo won't do it justice, but this is the best fish and chips I've ever had in Scotland. Attached to a seafood market, so it was insanely fresh - but the batter was light and incredibly crisp, and the chops were bang on. The tartar was great too. Be prepared to pay a bit more than usual for the quality though. Also - drive here. Don't walk like we did! It's in the Harbour area and the last 10-15 mins of the walk is a bit grim. It would also be handy to have a car. There is no toilet and there are no seats. There are a couple of outdoor bar tables for eating, but you have to stand and you'll get pestered by birds.”
