About The Lifeboat, Tenby

The Lifeboat, Tenby is a pub on St Julian's St in Tenby, with a bar built from a salvaged clinker boat and parts of the boat used in the interior. A ship's bell hangs in the bar, and when someone rings it, shots go out to everyone drinking there. The kitchen serves the Wreck of Ribs and the Golden Seafood Basket, and a steak sizzler is advertised on a board outside. A burger challenge is set for two people, who must finish the whole burger and chips within 10 minutes, and photos of past winners are on display. Musicians play live on Friday nights, and cocktails are on the drinks list alongside beer. Dogs are taken in the front room. The pub does not take table bookings, so it works on a walk-in basis.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the bar itself, built from a real boat, which several describe as unique and memorable. Food comes close behind, with diners naming the Wreck of Ribs, the Golden Seafood Basket, a steak sizzler and a two person burger challenge, with photos of past winners on display. The chips are called really good, and cocktails and generously filled beer glasses also get mentions. Several describe reasonable prices, food arriving quickly in a busy room, friendly staff, and live musicians on a Friday. The complaints are specific. One reviewer was charged entry on New Year's night after reading it was free, found the pub too crowded to reach the bar, and met an awful attitude from the doorman when asking for money back. Another was shouted at by a waiter for asking to book a table and found the party bowl of chips tiny for the cost. One reviewer recalls a woman ringing the ship's bell and shots handed out to everyone in the bar.

“I can't recommend the lifeboat tavern enough, the food was excellent, the tavern itself is amazing the bar is an actual boat. The service is good, it's got a great selection on the menu and very good prices, I think you would find it hard to get value for your money anywhere else in Tenby. Even though it was busy you didn't have to wait long for the food to come out. It is definitely a place I will go back to on my next visit to Tenby.”

“Almost never came in as earlier in the day I popped in and asked a waiter if I could book a table for later. Very rude response, half shouted "NO WE DONT DO THAT HERE, YOU'LL HAVE TO CHANCE IT". Came back anyway as my wife really wanted to try the food. Overpriced for portion sizes, "party" bowl of chips was tiny but they were the saving grace as they were really good chips, hence the extra star on the review. Won't be returning.”

“Great food, busy pub but we were served pretty quick. I Had the steak sizzler, the board outside tempted us in! All four of us had lovely meals and all at a reasonable price.”

“We had such a great experience at Lifeboat Tavern. The whole place has a really fun and unique vibe, and the decoration is very special. I loved that they had used parts of a real boat as part of the interior design, which made the atmosphere feel really different and memorable. We ordered the burger challenge for two people, and the burger was absolutely delicious. It was huge, tasty, and definitely a fun experience to share. One of the coolest details was that they had photos on display of the people who had managed to win the burger challenge. The challenge was to finish the whole burger and chips within 10 minutes, which made it even more fun and entertaining. They also had a great variety of cocktails, and the prices were really good too. Overall, great food, lovely atmosphere, good value, and a very unique place to visit. Definitely worth stopping by!”
