About Plantagenet House Restaurant
Plantagenet House Restaurant is an à la carte restaurant and bar at 1 Quay Hill in Tenby, set in one of the town's oldest buildings. The interior is split into many separate rooms that each differ from the next, and the bar sits downstairs. The menu is short, with few dishes to choose from, among them roasted salmon on mashed potatoes with a leek sauce. Sunday lunch and dinner add beef and lamb roasts, with a crumble to finish. The restaurant is open daily and runs as full table service. A dessert board and a wine menu are also on offer.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the Sunday lunch, where the beef and lamb are described as tender and full of flavour, with gravy made from the meat juices. Close behind are the seabass, the roasted salmon on mashed potatoes, the chicken and mushroom lasagna, and a lobster described as very fresh. Reviewers also praise the historic building, its interesting decor, and the downstairs bar. Several call the prices reasonable for the quality, and one suggests reservations are a must. The menu is described as having few choices, and one reviewer found the salt and mash tasteless. Service draws mixed reports. Some find it warm and friendly, while others describe menus having to be requested and no dessert offered. One diner reports a fillet steak that was burnt, a watery risotto, and dead flowers on the table. Another says scallops arrived without the advertised black pudding and chorizo, then a waitress spilt a plate of mussels over a guest, and the couple had to ask before anything was comped.

“Very poor. Fillet steak was burnt. Risotto was watery. Salt and pepper shaker did not work. Flowers on the table were dead. No idea how to serve a negroni. Asked my wife where have we had a meal as bad as this in 5 years? Neither of us could think of it. Definitely avoid.”

“This place used to be a destination for us. We’d come every year on holiday. This year, we were staying an hour away, but still decided to go out of our way to visit for dinner. The service has always been slightly terse, but the food has always been wonderful. We ordered the scallops to start, advertised as coming with black pudding and chorizo. They arrived with neither. Wanting to be polite, we said nothing. Then the mains arrived, and the waitress spilt my partner’s mussels all over him- the broth went all over the table, his shorts and shoes. We were polite as it was clearly a mistake but the attitude we received couldn’t have been ruder. They didn’t offer to comp anything, and we actually had to ask! We won’t be coming back, which is a shame because we’ve enjoyed this place many times over the years. Definitely one to avoid.”

“The servers did not bring our menus: we had to ask for them. The menu had a limited choice of dishes. The salmon and mash I ordered had a nice leek sauce with green beans and peas, but the salt and mash were completely tasteless. The server cleared our plates and did not ask us if we wanted dessert or bring us the dessert board, even though they took one to the neighbouring table; one server was busy training a newcomer. We left without dessert and I left no tip.”

“We had a fantastic meal at Plantagenet House Restaurant. The food was absolutely outstanding – The seabass was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with great care. It was easily the highlight of our visit. The restaurant has a quiet, charming atmosphere with interesting historic décor that gives it plenty of character. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout, making us feel very welcome. Don't miss the quirky bar downstairs either – it's a unique and cosy spot that adds to the experience. If you're looking for exceptional food in a memorable setting, Plantagenet House Restaurant is a must-visit. Highly recommended!”
