About Hope & Anchor
Hope & Anchor is a nautical-themed gastropub in Tenby, at The Harbour Gallery. The fish and chips use Harbwr Brewery beer-battered fish. Mussels marinière with samphire arrive as a big bowl with ciabatta, and the menu also lists a Pembrokeshire beef burger and pan-fried sea bass served with a sauce. A specials menu runs alongside the regular pub menu and includes fresh fish. At the bar, locally brewed beers sit alongside bitters, cider and draught beer. The pub is open daily, and diners can bring their dogs.

Customer Review Summary
Fish dishes lead the praise at this Tenby gastropub, with reviewers naming the mussels most often, one calling them the best they have tasted and another praising a big bowl with samphire and ciabatta. Close behind are the pan-fried sea bass with a standout sauce, Cajun salmon, and the Harbwr Brewery beer battered fish with a light batter. Others single out the prawns, scampi and chips, crab claws, a Pembrokeshire beef burger and fish tacos. Diners describe generous portions, food arriving quickly even when the place is buzzing, and a good choice of local beers. Dogs are welcomed inside and out, and the kids' nuggets and cheese burger portions were larger than one parent expected. Service draws mostly warm comments, though one reviewer says the bar staff first seemed to treat them as an inconvenience. The one low score describes a fish and chips listed with tartare sauce that arrived without it, a server saying it had to be requested, and a packet sauce that felt out of place for a gastropub. One reviewer suggests booking a table.

“They don’t need your business. The fish n chips w/ tartar sauce in fact, does not come with tartar sauce. No big deal. Flagged down a server and asked for tartare sauce and they gave me attitude for it. “Hi I think my dish is missing tartare sauce” “You have to ask for tartare sauce” “But it’s listed on the menu with the dish” “Yah you have to ask for it” “So can I have some now?” The cod and fries (not chips) were fine. The packet tartare sauce was more fitting for a takeaway than a “gastro pub”. With the mood ruined we decided to go elsewhere for dessert. Bottom line, they are very busy and don’t need your business.”

“We popped in on a Monday evening and the place was already buzzing, but the staff kindly found us a table without any fuss — lovely, welcoming service from the moment we walked in. It's dog-friendly too, which was a nice touch. We're not huge dog people, and there were a couple of rather large ones at the table next to us, but they were ever so well behaved The food was superb. We had the pan-fried sea bass and it was absolutely gorgeous — the sauce it came with was a star. The fish and chips are very good here as well. I did wish they had curry sauce, but it was still delicious without it. Highly recommend calling in before or after your walk — no wonder it seems busy all day whenever we walk past. We'll definitely be back again”

“Really enjoyed this gastropub. There was an interesting and varied menu and specials, with a very good choice of fresh fish included. The food was excellently prepared and presented and there was a good selection of quality beers too. We ate inside and would describe it as cosy and atmospheric.”

“The energy of the restaurant pulls you in for an unforgettable experience. As soon as we walked in we were attended too, friendly and professional, although they were busy, we were quickly shown a table outside. We placed our order and our meal was delivered within minutes. The portions of food are very generous and the prawns, the best I've ever tasted. If you visiting Tenby, please pop in for a meal, you will not be disappointed.”

“We discovered the Hope and Anchor on a busy Saturday afternoon around 5pm, were quickly seated at a table a for 4 adults, a 7yr and dog, chairs and tables quickly shuffled to create a comfortable dining area. The menu had great choices and even though the bar was busy, we were quickly being served, 3x 10oz Rump, Seafood nacho combo and kiddies beef burger, plus various drinks. Was surprised that within 20 mins the food was served, big plates all full, the food looking amazing, piping hot and then the tastes, amazing, steaks cooked as asked full of flavour, tasty mushrooms, fresh onion rings and salad, great chips, beef burger a proper freshly made one, fish taco delicious. We eat out quite a lot and I can honestly say these were some of the best tasting meals for many years, quality top stuff and actually at a good reasonable price. Drinks the same, great selection and not overly expensive. Highly recommend the hope and anchor and we will b we back on our next trip down. Thanks to everyone in the staff, great place to eat and drink out.”
