About Al Basha

Al Basha is a halal restaurant on St Helen's Road in Swansea, serving kebabs, wraps, burgers and starters alongside a range of drinks. Chicken and shawarma wraps come in normal and XL sizes, and platters and skewer grills round out the mainstay orders. Meals often arrive with complimentary extras, free fries, a small lentil soup starter or tasters of sauces, so a plate tends to reach the table with more than was ordered. The kitchen prepares everything to halal standards, which settles the question for diners who need it. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without help. Reservations are recommended, though the doors open daily.

Customer Review Summary

Charcoal grilling is what reviewers return to most, with the mixed spicy kebab and the three skewer grill drawing the strongest praise for smoky flavour and portions described as massive, and BBQ wings called tender and juicy close behind. Chicken wraps come up repeatedly, one diner calling the chicken perfectly cooked, and falafel, okra in tomato sauce and the platter each get a mention. Several highlight the free extras, fries with the meal, a lentil soup starter, and tasting plates of chicken and homemade sauces handed over by the owners, alongside the photo corner and Algerian music played for one group. The complaints are pointed and concrete: one reviewer binned half a kebab and called it basic, another describes a wrap so thin on meat and salad it disappointed, and one otherwise positive diner reports chicken and a shawarma wrap arriving undercooked. A burger review asks for better quality meat while still noting a return visit on every trip to Swansea.

“Asked for a descent wrap but got a McDonalds straw instead of a proper wrap. Very slim, very little salad and very little meat. Keep that in mind”

“We ordered a large and a normal chicken wrap, XL and normal. Wrap was excellent. The chicken was perfectly cooked. We also received a lentil soup as a small starter, and it was very delicious. The staff was very kind and friendly :)”

“13 quid for a basic kebab that was worse than oasis. never again. I have actually taken food out of the freezer so I can cook a decent version of this meal tomorrow. half of this is in the bin”

“All I can say this is the absolute best meal I have ever had! Seen this place Saturday for the first time, ordered the mix Spicey kebab, thoroughly enjoyed it. For £8 it was massive abdni finished it off the next day... so tonight being Sunday, I said to my family I'm traveling 12 miles to get a kebab, so the wife had a kebab, my son and I had the 3 skewer grill. Well mine came with rice chips all the trimmings and boy it was awesome! Cooked on the charcoal grill, like traditional way, and the smokiness was amazing on the flavour of the meat I have never tatsed before. It was heaven on a plate! My brother came with us and decided to order 10 wings cooked again on the BBQ grill and they were so tender juicy abd full of flavour and the smokiness from the grill was intense and well balanced. Best wings ever.. as we were there the owner was giving us tester foods of chicken and different sauces and his hospitality was sooo soo friendly and I didn't want to leave, these guys are absolutely amazing and looked after us well on tasting foods that I have never tried before which I really appreciated. This shop and its owners deserve an award for their good foods. This is my new grill house. Abd will always return back. ( also the felafel are amazing and their okera in tomatoe sauce.”
