Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the room itself, with a fireplace, a Japanese tree in the middle and a view onto the river, described as beautiful and cozy. Breakfast draws repeated praise as delicious, and the strawberry tart and other desserts get the same word, while fish and chips and the Thai chicken are also liked. Staff are called friendly. The food draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer received a frozen gluten free scone and microwaved, doughy scones with a tiny portion of cream that was not clotted. Another found a fish main dry and unseasoned, and a third found the steak pie dry. One reviewer reports a sister burnt her hand on the hot pan her table's butter chicken arrived in. Others note a loud dining room and slow food. Another reviewer enjoyed the butter chicken but would ask for a plate, since it came in a hot skillet with rice in a small bowl.

“One of our favourite places to eat.highly rated until recent visit. We had lunch for 4 people but sadly disappointed by what we had. Platter for 4 was really only suitable for 2 people.Butter chicken had hardly any sauce and was served in very hot pan.small bowl of rice.sister burnt her hand.steak pie was very dry and had to ask for more gravy.also what's happening with traditional steak pie pastry now being served like a pastry blob dropped on top.portion sizes are smaller but costing more. We raised the issues with staff member who said they would pass our comments on. The staff and service was excellent as always but sadly food wasn't as good.”

“I am writing to share the wonderful experience my family and I had at your restaurant today, 26 July 2026, around [Time, e.g., 2:45PM]. We were seated beside the fire, i think table 111. Unfortunately, I didn't catch our waitress's name, but I wanted to make sure she received the recognition she deserves. She was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and truly went above and beyond to make our dining experience special. Her attentive service and warm hospitality stood out to our entire family, and she is a fantastic representative of your restaurant. The strawberry tart was to die for!! Please pass along our sincere thanks to her. Employees of her caliber are rare, and we will certainly be returning because of the excellent care she took of us. Warm regards,”

“Our first visit here and it was good. Lovely setting and choice of areas to sit. Excellent Menunl Options. We had the Thai Chicken and the Butter Chicken. Both were delicious. If I ordered the Butter Chicken again, I would ask for a plate, as the food came in a hot skillet with the pilau rice in a small bowl. The Restaurant also became quite loud during the meal, maybe due to it being full - which is a good sign. Would definitely go back”

“We had an awful experience here. We ordered 4 coffees and 4 scones, which came to £40. One of the scones was actually frozen (the gluten free option) and the other three were very poor, doughy and tasteless. Definitely not fresh and home made! They had been heated up in a microwave. There was a little pack of butter in plastic on 3, but one was missing it totally. And the cream, was not clotted and there was such a tiny amount. Not even enough for both halves of the scone. Very, very poor for the price and for a place that boasts great food and afternoon teas. We had to ask for milk, and a knife to spread the butter, and sugar all separately. It took about 20 mins for the scone to come out, we had just finished our coffees! Definitely could do better.”
