Quick info
About Thai Rice Southport
Thai Rice Southport is a Thai restaurant at 20B Bold St in Southport, run by owners from Chiang Mai. The kitchen makes its fish cakes in-house and serves them as a starter, so the opening course comes from the team's own prep. Massaman curry is on offer for the main course, and the kitchen adds extra spice on request, which lets diners set the heat to their own taste. Singha beer is served alongside the food.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers praise the authentic Thai cooking above all, with the in-house fish cakes named most often as fresh and extremely tasty. Close behind are the chicken satay, the prawn tempura and a massaman curry one diner calls the best they have had. A seafood salad with king prawns, mussels and squid is described as terrific and spicy, and one table says extra spice was no trouble to add on request. Two reviewers compare the flavours to trips to Thailand, including Phuket. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and a few describe the room as cozy and spotless, with one noting it was very busy. One reviewer recommends the prawn tempura and fish cakes. The one recurring-style complaint comes from a diner who booked a Saturday special occasion and says they were asked to pay at 9.30pm while still drinking, then asked to leave at 9.45pm because the restaurant wanted to close, finding the owner rude and dismissive. Another reviewer's table of 20 arrived to balloons and banners and was surprised with a birthday dessert and a candle.

“I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. From the moment I arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the menu and offer recommendations, which made choosing dishes much easier. The food was outstanding—fresh, authentic, and full of flavour. In fact, the taste instantly reminded me of a holiday I spent in Phuket, bringing back some great memories. Every dish was beautifully prepared and packed with authentic Thai flavours. The restaurant itself was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy the meal. Considering the quality of the food and the excellent service, it offers fantastic value for money at a very affordable price. As an added bonus, they also provide free parking, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Thai food, first-class service, and great value. I'll definitely be returning.”

“Been several times with family and friends, booked 9th May Saturday special occasion with friends who travelled far, disappointed, spent a lot of money and at 9.30pm whilst still drinking our drinks we were asked to pay the bill, which we did, at 9.45pm we were asked to leave as they were wanting to close, my guests were not happy and l found the whole situation embarrassing and quite rude as the owner was both rude and dismissive. I have taken a lot of friends and family there in the past but will now be going elsewhere were my custom will be valued.”

“A excellent Thai restaurant, I would say the best in southport that I’ve been to. The Thai staff were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend the prawn tempura and fish cakes. Great service and even met an old school friend there who I haven’t seen for years so was a bonus.”
