About Occulo Lounge
Occulo Lounge is a restaurant on Lord Street in Southport, set in a large high-ceilinged building with a staircase and seating on more than one floor. Bar-style seating, tables for large groups and upstairs coffee tables give parties of different sizes somewhere to settle. The tapas menu includes honey-whipped feta, and a garlic flatbread can be added to an order. A separate vegan menu lists a vegan BLT and sweet potato fries, and there is a gluten free menu too. The lounge keeps board games for children and adults and toys for the youngest guests, and dogs are offered refreshments of their own. It is walk-in only, and orders go in from the table by QR code. Water is self-serve.

Customer Review Summary
Tapas draw the most mentions, with reviewers singling out the honey-whipped feta and calling the rest tasty. Close behind are Louisiana chicken tenders with crispy chips, a shakshuka with roast chickpeas, and a vanilla matcha. Reviewers also praise the vegan and gluten-free choices, the quick ordering, the friendly staff, and a high-ceilinged building that reminds several of an old bank, with a quirky look upstairs and down. One family enjoyed the quiz night. The recurring complaint is portion size. Two reviewers describe a garlic flatbread arriving as two small pieces, about half a normal one, and one adds a half-full pot of fries and a bombay cauliflower with three florets. One reviewer describes a chaotic family lunch with missing, wrong or warm drinks, staff arguing in front of guests, and plates that looked ready-made. Another had an overcooked vegan BLT taken back by a server, who returned with fresh vegan bacon within minutes. The chaotic lunch ended with a refund offered as an apology.

“We visited Occulo while staying in Southport for a couple of nights. We are a family of 4 with 2 teen boys (15 & 16). We just happened to visit on quiz night and thought we may as well have a go. We had such a good time as there were questions that each of us could answer throughout the quiz. It was a great way to spend time together and lots of fun. We're not 'professional' quizzers but that didn't matter, there was something for everyone. The staff made us all very welcome, special shout out to David who compared the quiz. .”

“If it were possible, I would give this place no stars at all when it comes to the service. I visited with my family because I wanted to treat them to a nice lunch, but unfortunately the whole experience was extremely disappointing. The service was incredibly chaotic. Several people in our group of five never received their drinks at all during the entire visit, while other drinks arrived incorrectly, arrived twice, or were served warm. What made it even more frustrating was that the restaurant did not appear to be particularly busy, so it was difficult to understand why such basic things could not be managed. We also witnessed several members of staff arguing and shouting at each other in front of guests, which created a very uncomfortable atmosphere. The food took around 40 minutes to arrive, and when it finally came, it was a huge disappointment. The portions were very small, and it honestly looked like mostly ready-made items had simply been placed onto a plate. For the waiting time and the price, we expected something much better. We did receive a £20 refund as an apology, which we appreciated, but unfortunately it does not change the fact that I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. What makes this even more disappointing is that the place itself has a lovely interior, a nice atmosphere, and is very child-friendly in terms of its design. It has a lot of potential. However, good surroundings cannot make up for such poor service and organisation. Our child was with us and was very upset because he spent most of the visit waiting, basically having to live on a few cereals because his meal never arrived properly, and even his drink was never brought to him. In the end, we had to go to a nearby supermarket to buy the drink he had been waiting for the entire time. I honestly do not understand how difficult it can be to simply open a bottle or a can of soft drink and bring it to the table, but this was exactly the drink that never arrived. Several other drinks were also missing or incorrect. It is a real shame because the location and atmosphere are lovely, and it could be a wonderful family-friendly place. Unfortunately, the extremely poor service, lack of organisation, long waiting times, and disappointing food completely ruined our experience.”

“Occulo Lounge in Southport is located in a huge, grand building on the corner of Lord Street. It feels like you’re walking into an old bank or museum, and the interior combines the usual vibes from Loungers that I love while still adding a nod to the building’s history, including the staircase and windows. There was a large amount of seating. I was able to find a comfortable coffee table to sit back and relax on the top floor, while there was also lots of seating better suited to large groups, diners, and bar-style seating; there was something for everyone. I opted for just a drink on my visit, opting for an Iced French Vanilla Latte. It was pretty good; it was slightly sweeter than I’m used to at other Lounges, but I still enjoyed it and had a nice time for sure. I did find the straw to sag very easily, and it didn’t last long enough for me to finish my drink. This is a problem I’ve had at a couple of Lounges now - not a huge deal, as easy enough to get a new one. The staff are also pretty friendly here, and service is fast, and I would definitely return here the next time in Southport, mainly down to the friendly staff, palace-like atmosphere and impressive gluten-free food selection.”

“I spotted this on Lord Street, I noticed people drinking outside and immediately though it was a new pub so we had a wander inside and was quite surprised by the size of the place, I'd guess it must have previously been a Bank because of the very high ceilings which give the place a very airy feeling. I then noticed people eating inside and that that it was really a restaurant. The interior was very nicely laid out with plenty of seating. Staff were quick to serve us. They had a good choice of beers beers, spirits and wines from what I could see. We took a seat outside to people watch and had a look at the large menu but we'd already eaten so didn't have a food but I noticed they have a good selection of tapas some will have to come back to try it all out.”

“I ordered a Shakshuka and a Vanilla Matcha. Now I don't usually find shakshuka anywhere, so I was happy to try this one out. It was delicious 😋 it has roast chickpeas in it which i hadn't had before and they were a nice touch. Also the Vanilla Matcha was tasty. Perfectly good value for money.”
