About The Plough
The Plough is a pub and restaurant in Bursledon, on the edge of Southampton, with a pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farm and a farm shop at the back of the building. Guests can pick produce on the same site where they eat. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast, with one calling it plentiful and another praising a delicious roast alongside a veggie mezze platter. Close behind is the garden, described as lush and sunny, with a play area that suits children, and the fish pie came up as delicious and piping hot. Servers get repeated credit for being friendly and patient with children, and one family noted an order taken without writing anything down. The complaints are mostly about food and value. Several found dishes bland, including fish and chips with no seasoning, a burger, and loaded nachos with a tablespoon of bean chilli. Others called the food and dessert pricey for the portions, and one noted a 10% service fee added to the receipt. A bread starter of bare crust and peppery kids' chicken tenders also drew criticism. One dog owner was told the new manager doesn't want dogs in the restaurant, despite the pub being listed as dog friendly, and said the roast meat was not cut from a joint.

“lovely family pub restaurant. good Sunday lunch plenty of it. staff and atmosphere very welcoming. massive car park and plenty outdoor seating. Added bonus it backs on to a huge pick your own fruit and vegetable and a very good farm shop so nice to walk off your lunch by visiting there as well!!”

“Had a lovely birthday celebration lunch. The food was outstanding. Many dishes for adults and children were served together and very tasty. The staff were outstanding, so patient especially with the children. We were very impressed.”

“Has Lili serve us today and she was great, great with my little boy and very kind. Great service. Great food, the bread starter with oils was awful, it was just the crust of a slice of a bread. Kids chicken tenders were very peppery but everything else was fine! Lovely garden for the kids to play also!”

“After reading "Dog friendly pub and restaurant" we booked a table. Asking for a table in a corner if possible. We arrived with our dogs, and when asked if we wanted a table inside or out, we asked for an inside table. They then tried to seat us in the gangway of the bar, when we asked if it was possible to sit in the restaurant in a corner out of the way, we were told they shouldn't really let us as the new manager doesn't want dogs in the restaurant. I understand this is often the case, but we research our pubs to make sure they are dog friendly which this one said it was. But apparently not that dog friendly. The food was not the worst we've had, but the roast meat is definitely not cut from a joint. So not that great either. Can definitely say we will not be returning.”

“A charming traditional country pub and restaurant in Bursledon. Situated on the edge of Southampton and only a few minutes’ drive from the M27, the Plough is the epitome of a traditional English country pub. With a beautiful garden and children’s play area, the pub is ideal for those long hot summers and when the nights start to draw in our roaring log fire and cosy interior really come into their own. Enjoy drinks in the beer garden and terrace, a great Sunday roast, drinks and coffee.”
