About The Giddy Bridge

The Giddy Bridge is a pub at 16 London Rd in Southampton, where tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills, so a hot drink can last through a long sit-down. The food side starts with a large English breakfast and moves on to gourmet burgers and wings with blue cheese, with vegetarian choices on the menu as well. The bar pours real ales, craft beers and gins alongside soft drinks. A curry night runs in the evenings for those who want a set theme to the meal. Orders can be placed from the table through the Wetherspoon app, so there is no need to queue at the bar. A car park in Bedford Place sits directly opposite for drivers.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to low prices at this Southampton Wetherspoon, singling out a large English breakfast with unlimited coffee, free refills on hot chocolate and latte, and what one calls the cheapest pint in the busiest part of town. Close behind is a food verdict that splits. One diner enjoyed curry night, with chicken tikka masala and blue cheese wings, plus a brownie with ice cream, while others call the food a little below par or disappointing next to other branches. Staff draw mixed comments: some describe polite, attentive service and a good rapport with regulars, though one diner reports a long wait for two cheeseburger meals that arrived overcooked, small and not very hot, blaming understaffing. Another says drinks never arrived after a very long wait, a staff member answered a follow-up question dismissively, and a requested refund had still not come. Weekend evenings are described as busy, with tables hard to find, while a quiet Wednesday lunchtime made seating easy, including the upstairs balcony.

“Cheapest pint in the busiest part of town. Its a standard Spoons though so don't expect anything too fancy or nice. It usually very busy on weekend evenings and often difficult to find a table”

“Food come out quick, before my drink in fact, that rarely happens. Food was a little below par in comparison to other wetherspoons ive been to. Staff were very polite and seemed to have a good relationship with their regulars.”

“Great place, it is your typical run of the mill weatherspoons. You see a younger crowd later in the evening. Food is pretty good, been here a few times and it's a decent drink selection. Toilet facilities are fair. Overall a decent experience.”

“I ordered a couple of drinks for me and my friends and they never arrived. I understand being busy but 2 hours is a bit much, still I understand and that is ok but when I went to ask about my order, I had one of the staff treat me like I am a child. "Are you going to ask me the same thing?", seriously? When I waited longer and my order again never arrived, I went down to ask for a refund which I still have not received.”
  • Paul (Gunnapaul2)
“To be fair to the staff they did their best to serve everyone as quickly as possible, it was very busy and they're clearly understaffed. However, after having to wait an hour for very simple meals the food was awful. Overcooked, small portions, not very hot, etc. Wetherspoons really need to start hiring more staff at these busy restaurants. P.s. My photo shows two American cheeseburger and chips meals. And yes, these were supposedly adult portions!”
