Customer Review Summary
Reviewers describe food that goes beyond usual pub grub, with the Sunday roast the most frequent order and a draw for returning visitors. Close behind are the starters and mains diners name: scallops with black pudding and pea and truffle puree, a baked camembert, beef fillet with a bourguignon pie, venison haunch, duck breast with beetroot and salmon with rosti. Desserts such as sticky coffee and walnut pudding, a chocolate torte and a blackberry and walnut Bakewell tart also get mentioned. Several praise the friendly, welcoming staff and the village setting, including the garden, and one notes gluten free and vegan options on the menu. The caveats are small and concern quantity. One reviewer found the gravy on the roast and the ice cream with dessert a little stingy, another would prefer smaller portions to be larger, and one waited a while for a drink on a busy day. In hot weather, a continual supply of water for garden guests drew thanks, and one diner left happy and full after finishing the bread to start.

“We went there yesterday for a family wedding and the location, food and service were all fantastic. They really went out of their way to make it a special occasion for the young couple. The wasn't normal pub grub....and it was all the better for it. If I want cheap food for the calories, I'll go to McDonalds. If I want tasty food full of flavour then come here. It is a destination pub and one worth the journey. Oh and the tap water has iced to perfection. Lovely owner who cares as it is their business, not some manager parachute in.”

“This charming pub/restaurant offers appropriately priced dining of high quality. Drinks choices are wide, and fresh water is readily available to customers. Service is friendly and courteous. The premises are impeccably maintained. I am very happy to support this independent business.”

“Wow. what an amazing location and such an amazing manager in Lesley. Arrived and sat in the garden - good quality everything and people cannot do enough for you. Thanks for your help as well with the heat and a continual supply of water whilst we were having a few other drinks … keep up the great work and professional attitude … and having witnessed some people taking the mickey about water … dont them get to you - there is always them that want something for nothing - and you did loads to help them buy supplying so so much water.”

“A great setting and well looked after premises. The staff were amazing (Although one slight Black mark, we did have to wait a while for a drink to turn up, but they were busy.) The food was lovely, we had Sunday Roast. The portion and amount of veg were good. The only think stopping the 5-star rating was that the amount of gravy on the main and the ice cream with the desert. Both were a little stingey. Would definitely recommend and go again, though.”

“Such a friendly welcoming pub in a pretty village. The food we had was outstanding and more akin to a fine dining restaurant than a pub but without the astronomical prices. Absolutely delicious. Hubby had the duck breast with delicious beetroot. This was gluten free and there were 6 gluten free main course options on the menu and one vegan. I had the salmon with the most amazing Rosti and gorgeous creamy sauce.. Followed by chocolate fudge cake which was a torte to die for served with malted milk ice cream and a warm blackberry and walnut Bakewell tart with blackberry ripple ice-cream, which was a nice twist on the usual Bakewell tart. Our bill was about £77 in total including 2 cokes and a J2o. The atmosphere is lovely as are all the staff. This is the second time we’ve been and both times have been wonderful. We shall be back! Highly recommend this pub.”
