About Red Lion Caythorpe
Red Lion Caythorpe is a village pub and restaurant in Grantham, at 62 High St, in a building that dates back to the 1700s. A lit fireplace sits inside, and dogs are welcome, which suits walkers and cyclists stopping in with their pets. The Specials Board changes and carries freshly made dishes, so the choice varies. The main menu mixes classics with less usual options, including Moroccan lamb and curries made with seafood or lamb. A traditional roast lunch comes in one, two or three course options. The bar pours a selection of beers, wines and other drinks, and the team seats walk-in guests who arrive for a drink and decide to eat.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the Sunday lunch, praised as hot, fresh and good quality, with a one, two or three course option that one reviewer highly recommends. Close behind are the rotating specials and curries, with the seafood and lamb curries and a tender Moroccan lamb singled out, alongside ribs that fell off the bone, a prawn and salmon pasta and a starter of whipped feta with jam. Reviewers also mention generous portions and a good choice of beers and wines. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and helpful, and the fireplace gets a mention for a warm, cosy feel. The one criticism is the chips, which one diner felt could be improved. Several describe being squeezed in without a booking, one party arriving after the kitchen had closed was still served dinner, and a table with a guest with dementia was treated with understanding. One hiker on a 24 hour walk was even offered a discount and snacks for the road.

“One of the best pubs we have ever visited. Food was fantastic, the service was incredible and most importantly, despite us showing up when the kitchen just closed, the lovely staff still served us a dinner. We were doing our 24hour hike and he couldn’t be nicer. He offered us even a discount and some snacks for the road; this is why we can’t stop recommending the best pub in Lincolnshire.”

“We had such a lovely visit to this beautiful little village pub. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which instantly set the tone for a relaxed evening. The place itself is very aesthetic and cosy, with a gorgeous fireplace that was lit and beautifully warm perfect for a chilled, comfortable meal. We decided to eat here and we’re so glad we did. To start, we had the whipped feta with jam, which was gorgeous — such a lovely pairing of creamy and sweet, and something a little different from the usual starters. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the ribs and the meat literally fell off the bone tender, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. We also tried the prawn and salmon pasta, which was equally impressive, packed with flavour and perfectly balanced. The only slight downside was the chips, which could do with a little improvement, but that certainly wouldn’t stop us from coming back. Overall, a warm, cosy pub with fantastic food and genuinely lovely staff. We’ll definitely be returning!”

“Dating back to the 1700s, this restaurant and bar is set in a country village serving excellent food, wines and beers in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Lunch is offered 12-3 and Dinner is offered from 6-9pm Mon to Sat with a Specials Board offering freshly made dishes. When they are gone.... they are gone! Sunday’s are the chill out day, serving lunch from 12 until 6pm. So sit back with the papers, enjoy a glass of something nice and a traditional roast. An outdoor area or an open fire in the winter welcomes cyclists & walkers to dry off and enjoy a well earned drink and bite to eat. As dog owners ourselves we are proud to be a dog-friendly pub. We look forward to welcoming you Simon, Becky & Kim”
