Quick info
About Cecil Street Fish Bar
On Cecil Street in a residential part of Grantham, Cecil Street Fish Bar serves fish and chips for walk-in customers with no reservations taken. It operates as a fish and chip shop only, without kebabs or burgers on the menu. Fish is cooked to order, and the large cod holds its full size rather than shrinking down. Chip portions run generous, and mushy peas and curry sauce are available on the side. Staff will return chips to the fryer to crisp them further on request. The shop opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays, and a wait is common once orders start coming in.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the large cod, which several say is genuinely large and freshly cooked on arrival, with fish cooked to order a repeated point of praise. Close behind are the chips, described as generous in portion size, and the crisp batter. One reviewer says the shop passed a wooden spoon test for fish size that another chippy had failed. Mushy peas and curry sauce come up as sides that do the trick. Staff are called friendly, welcoming and helpful, and a few mention the regulars. Reviewers also appreciate that it is a traditional fish and chip shop in a residential area, without kebabs and burgers on the menu. The only suggestion for change is one reviewer wishing for a Panko breadcrumb option. That same reviewer says the staff happily put chips back in the fryer to crisp them up, even on a busy Friday evening.

“My other chippie post went viral, where a particular fish and chip shop claimed they were selling me a large fish. This failed the wooden spoon measuring test! The jokers! Cecil Street Fish Bar in Grantham shows how it should be done. A large cod IS a large cod, freshly cooked on arrival. The chip portion sizes are very generous, and mushy peas or curry sauce sides do the trick! Friendly staff. Service with a smile. Worth repeated visits. You are guaranteed a decent meal. Hats off to Cecil Street Fish Bar!”
