Customer Review Summary
Salt and pepper chicken is the dish reviewers name most, though opinions split: one calls it bang on, while another found it wasn't coated in salt and pepper at all. Regulars praise the curry, chips described as homemade rather than frozen, the pancake rolls and the lunchtime specials. One reviewer has been going for seven years and never had a bad meal, and another mentions delivery on time and helpful staff. The complaints are more numerous and detailed. Several reviewers received the wrong order, including missing items they were then asked to pay for again, and shredded beef instead of the special. One order arrived late. Spring rolls come up repeatedly as pastry with no filling. Ribs were described as small chunks of bone and gristle in sauce, and the sticky crispy beef as mostly batter with a strange flavour. Salt and pepper chips were called okay by one reviewer and plain chip shop chips by another. More than one person asked for boiled or egg fried rice and received fried rice instead.

“TL;DR: this is a perfect takeaway to get as a group of friends and form some bonding experiences over the crapshow of an order you'll get back. But if you're just looking for a quality Chinese takeaway meal - stay away! First off, we were a party of 4 determined to try this different takeaway. The logic for choosing it was: the more ghetto a takeaway looks, the better and more authentic the food. Didn't work this time, ah well. First worrying sign was that the gent on the other side of the phone spoke perfect English! That doesn't bode well... We had menu item numbers ready to request, but he seemed to struggle keeping them straight, so we had to go back and match these numbers back up with the actual long form names of the dishes. Our mistake, right? More on that later. The gent said our meal added to 54.50. We double checked that we can pay by card - the menu reads "only cash payment is accepted *for delivery*", after all, implying we'd be fine - but alas, we found out that no, only cash was taken! And we lived 1 min down the road from Hung, but a good 15 from an ATM. Ah well, time to go for an adventure... Upon getting back to pick up our food, we were surprised to hear that, actually, it was 64.50! Now, this particular gent was clearly not well exercised in English, a clear difference from the phone one... Maybe some wires got crossed? Fast forward - adding all the items did indeed prove this sum to be correct. However, given the order was made on speakerphone, *everybody* in our party heard the sum of 54.50 being pronounced. Since we went to an ATM and drew out *60*, this obviously wasn't enough to fully pay our tax dodging friends - but they were kind enough to accept 60 flat nevertheless. I later realised that this was maybe compensation for all the mistakes they have made in making the food... First off, one of the meals was shredded beef instead of special - despite the container lid loudly proclaiming otherwise. Wires indeed got crossed. Then, we found anaemic looking prawns that seem to have been spiced with human hair to bridge the flavour gap. I personally wasn't bothered - it's rather *voodoo* and cool! - but some of our party became rather worried. Tough for them I guess! The food overall was lacklustre, undercooked, and boring, if not outright awful. More chuckles were raised based on what was thrown in: one egg fried rice and one *regular* rice were requested - instead, we seem to have received two *different* sized tubs of the exact same rice, fried looking, but altogether egg-lacking. Various dips were included, mysterious, seemingly not connected to any of the food ordered. Thanks, I guess? Salt and pepper box had competently prepared proteins, in this reviewers opinion - however the chips themselves tasted like plain, bog standard chip shop chips. Maybe the logic is that the customer is fully capable of putting their own salt and pepper on their chips, and they need not bother? A piddly amount of chilies and onions was hiding in the corner, likely ashamed they partook in the excuse for calling this dish what it was. Honestly, overall, we had a great time eating this food. Sometimes, it's not about the quality per se, but about overcoming challenges and adversity as a group, together, and laughing about it afterwards. Timeless memories were made! Hung Fong provided a delightful experience to that end, even if the food itself left lots to be desired. Just remember when you order - life is about the journey, not the destination!”
