About PizzaExpress
PizzaExpress is a pizza restaurant at G38 in the Salford Quays Designer Outlet, Salford. Kids' pizza-decorating parties run in a separate secluded area, with tables pre-booked for each party. The kitchen is open, and the dining room has orange booths. Dough balls come with garlic butter, and a sealed pot of them is prepared for coeliacs. A gluten-free pizza base is also on the menu. Calories are marked beside each dish, with low-calorie choices included, and a clear allergy guide is available for anyone checking ingredients. Members of the PizzaExpress Club earn rewards that range from dough balls to a free child's meal.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out friendly, accommodating staff, with several describing servers and a manager who kept a packed Saturday and a pre-match rush running smoothly. Dishes named include a gluten-free Pollo Ad Astra with dough balls, a bbq burnt ends pizza with garlic butter dip, a stretched dough beef pizza and mozzarella sticks. One coeliac reviewer prefers the regular gluten-free base to the Romana one but likes the new sealed pot of garlic butter. A vanilla cheesecake struck one diner as too sweet. Reviewers also mention the clear allergy guide, calories marked on the menu, and a children's pizza party where kids decorated their own pizzas. Others note long queues on event days, and one finds it a little expensive without offers. The main complaint comes from one party whose starters arrived very late, with stone cold calamari, and who left before mains, saying standards had fallen, though they credited the manager for handling it well.

“Came on a busy Saturday evening and cannot comment the staff enough. Worked in hospitality myself previously and the entitlement of some people is ridiculous. Well done to the staff and team for dealing with some challenging situations from some truly awful customers. When there’s a queue of 50 or more people outside and the restaurant is full of course there’s going to be a longer wait on food but at that point it’s your choice to dine in the restaurant. Food was excellent and Tristan was a great server and wonderful host. Thanks for an amazing evening.”

“We had my son’s 11th birthday party and although I was a bit late on the mark asking for a pizza party the kids could still decorate their pizzas and had a great time. The kids had the secluded part and made it extra special. The staff were fab and Andy was brilliant so helpful and accommodating nothing was too much trouble. Supported by Maria who was the main waitress and so helpful and warm. Together with other waiting and kitchen staff. This is my favourite pizza express. Thank you for making it a great experience and memorable birthday xx”

“My experience was absolutely fabulous. I was served by a wonderful waitress by the name Maria. She was very sympathetic and took my order without any problems. The food was marvellous and the atmosphere of the restaurant was immaculate and very relaxing. I think that one of the best servers I have ever had was Maria. If I was the manager I would definitely give her a raise!”

“We arrived at 6:00pm for a pre-booked table of five and placed our order almost immediately. It then took an hour for our starters to arrive. The calamari was stone cold, our little one’s cucumber was rotten and slimy, and overall there seemed to be a complete lack of care and attention when preparing the food. By 7:15pm, with still no sign of our mains, we decided to leave. To be fair, the manager handled the situation well, but watching the staff throughout our visit was frustrating. Several employees showed very little urgency, wandered around at a snail’s pace, and generally gave the impression they couldn’t be bothered. There appeared to be little attention to detail or focus on customer service. The biggest selling point of Pizza Express has always been consistency. It’s never claimed to be world-class dining, but you know what you’re going to get simple food that’s largely prepared in advance and finished quickly in the restaurant. Unfortunately, that consistency seems to have disappeared. Based on this experience, standards have fallen dramatically.”

“Booked to eat here before a show at the Lowry theatre. Waiter was very good and helped us to get a discount by using the app. Food was very nice and freshly made. I was impressed by the low calorie menu choices. (Calories marked on menu.)”
