Quick info
About L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele
L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele is a pizza restaurant in Manchester, set in a former Lloyd's bank building at 53 King St with a large interior and art decoration. The kitchen makes Neapolitan-style pizzas in a large size, with the Diavola and Margherita among the pies on the menu. The Carbonara is also on offer, and gluten-free pizza and pasta are both made. The business traces its pizza-making to the Condurro family in Naples in 1870, and it pairs a traditional pizzeria format with a modern Italian restaurant menu. A street-side patio with garden heaters sits out front.

Customer Review Summary
The caveats are about size, cost and fit. Pizzas are very large, spilling over plates and tables, and one reviewer found the thin base fell apart and needed a knife and fork. A mandatory per-person cover charge for bread and oil draws complaints, with one diner given olives they did not want and another calling the bread stale and cold. Others mention a freezing room, a quiet atmosphere, and one pizza arriving after the other three at a table of four.

“Food was good. Service was even better. Unfortunately we forgot to ask the name of our waitress from Spain. She was extremely polite and friendly. Thank you for making us feel welcomed. Prices are good. I recommend this place.”

“Just passing by and it looked great so popped in! The welcome was lovely, the music and atmosphere very relaxed and the food divine! Told it was an old Lloyd's bank in times gone by...banks were posh back in the day!!! Will come here again X”

“I visited L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in July of 2026 and had an overall good experience. The restaurant is rather massive inside and beautifully finished. We visited on a weekday and it was more or less empty inside and a few occupied tables on the street-side patio. We opted to sit outside as well as it wasn't too hot out and the tables were in the shade. Would have been nice to dine inside however considering how beautiful it is. We were four and ordered a pizza each - two of them arrived at once, then a third, and then after a 5+ minute wait the fourth. That was mildly annoying as we're all waiting for the last guy to get his pizza before we start eating. I'm sure it wasn't more than five minutes but when you're hungry and your food is getting cold it feels like an eternity. I've worked in the restaurant business and understand coordinating meals at once can be challenging but...again, it wasn't very busy and we all ordered pizzas. Not sure why one of them took so much longer than the rest. But a minor quibble. I had the diavola - overall very delicious. I'm Canadian and have certain expectations when it comes to pizza and European ones don't always align. The bottom/crust of the pizza was super, super thin - like it was impossible to cut a slide and then pick it up; everything was just falling apart. So it was quite delicious but had to eat with a knife and fork and try to salvage everything. Personally I prefer a pizza that can manifest itself into the structure of a slice and eat one at a time. This was more like, carve up the middle into bit sized chunks and then consume the outer crust. Oh and pizza is quite big - spilling well over the edge of the plate, even the edge of the table! Staff were kinda, price was good & normal. Overall fine experience.”

“In 1870, the Condurro family began what was to become a long tradition of master pizza makers in the center of Naples. Michele Condurro, son of Salvatore, perfected the family art of pizza making, whose secrets he had learned from the famous masters in Torre Annunziata who were experts in the preparing and kneading of pizza dough, and the cooking of pizza. The secret of Da Michele’s enduring success is in the use of natural ingredients, and of an old, traditional, time-tested method of leavening pizza dough. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele has the features of a traditional Pizzeria, and a modern Italian Restaurant, offering a range of typical Italian courses and tasteful Neapolitan specialities in a welcoming setting.”
