About Poppies Tea Room
Poppies Tea Room brings the afternoon tea format to the morning, serving an afternoon tea style breakfast at this cafe and tea room in Rotherham, based at Unit 6. Cream tea scones arrive with clotted cream and jam, either on their own or as part of the full afternoon tea, and a selection of cakes sits alongside. Lunch brings lighter plates, quiche among them. Tea comes by the pot, with coffee also poured. Booking ahead is advised. The doors open Wednesday to Saturday in the daytime only, with Sunday through Tuesday closed. A step-free entrance keeps the tables reachable for visitors with mobility needs, high chairs make space for families with young children, and seating outside suits anyone who wants to eat in the open air. Afternoon tea can also be arranged around occasions such as baby showers and birthdays.

Customer Review Summary
Cakes dominate the praise here, described as showstoppers by one visitor and singled out by others for the sheer breadth of the selection, including a Cake Tapas plate that brought chocolate caramel, orange and Victoria Sponge slices alongside a scone with clotted cream and jam. Close behind sits afternoon tea, which several book for occasions and call outstanding, and the Poppies Cream Tea arriving on a platter with grapes, watermelon and strawberries beside a large pot of Earl Grey. Savoury orders also draw specific mentions: the cheese and caramelised onion quiche, a fish finger sandwich, a cheese toastie and a jacket potato, with food arriving quickly and hot. Reviewers repeatedly describe the staff as friendly and accommodating, noting help with dietary restrictions and allergies, vegan and vegetarian baked goods, and a welcome extended to children and larger groups. One recounts arriving for a birthday having forgotten a candle and being quietly supplied with one; another had decorated cupcakes made up as take home party gifts.

“Such a lovely place for afternoon tea. Served with care and good humour. So accommodating and thoughtful, thank goodness as I had forgotten a candle for the bithday girl. A hidden gem well worth a visit.”

“Poppies Tearoom is such a gem! The food was absolutely delicious – we tried the cheese toastie, quiche, and a jacket potato, and every bite was divine. I came along with my twins and we were made to feel so welcome, the atmosphere is warm, friendly, and really homely. But the head turner has to be the cakes – they’re true showstoppers! Honestly, words don’t do them justice, you just have to try them yourself 😋🤤. A wonderful spot that I’ll definitely be returning to again and again.”

“I had afternoon tea for my baby shower and it was a lovely day. The food was delicious, the staff were so kind and attentive, it was so stress free to organise I would highly recommend. I also paid for cup cakes as party gifts for people to take home and they were so beautifully decorated all my guests we're very impressed. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.”
