About Alan's Fish Bar
On Moray Way in Romford, Alan's Fish Bar is a takeaway where the fish is cooked to order, so a wait is possible when the counter is busy. The menu centres on cod and chips, with large portions of fish and chips available, and a sausage in batter and chips comes in a box. Curry sauce can be added to an order. The menu also reaches past the fryer to kebabs, burgers and wraps, including a doner kebab made with a mix of beef and lamb. Payment is cash only, with no card payments taken. The shop is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays, and Fridays tend to be busy.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the main draw, with reviewers praising cod and chips that arrive hot and fresh, light crispy batter, and fat chips fried well. Close behind is the wider menu: one diner enjoyed a doner kebab mixing beef and lamb, another had sausage in batter, and a first-timer plans to return for the kebabs and burgers. Staff are described as friendly. Fridays get busy, one reviewer suggests getting in quickly for an early dinner, and delivery can run long at busy times. Value is the recurring complaint. Several reviewers call the portions small and the prices high compared with other chippies, citing a large chips meant for two people, a ridiculously small burger and a small chicken wrap. A longtime customer says the large fish was undersized and overcooked and the chips have declined. Another reports a kebab that sat waiting on the fish and arrived cold and greasy, with only enough chips for one.

“Very overpriced Ordered large chips sharing for 2 people but I definitely wouldn’t call that a large portion, the burger is ridiculously small & so was the chicken wrap. Do not think you get anywhere near what you pay for compared to other chippies.”
