About Portofino
Portofino is an Italian restaurant in Ripon, a short distance from Ripon Cathedral and the town square. A specials board carries dishes such as sea bass thermidor and linguine with lobster and king prawn, alongside a main menu that includes pizza. Gluten-free pizza bases are available for guests avoiding gluten, though the half-and-half pizza deal does not apply to them. The restaurant takes walk-ins, and lunch runs on its own menu with a two-course option. Sunday lunch is served as well.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the large portions, with the seafood dishes drawing the most specific praise: a creamy seafood risotto full of fresh seafood, a seafood platter, sea bass thermidor, and linguine with lobster and king prawn. Close behind are a pizza with a crispy base, light calamari, and loaded wedges with bolognese and mozzarella, plus a Sunday lunch that one reviewer especially recommends. A coeliac diner calls the gluten-free pizza base one of the best they have eaten. Staff are described repeatedly as friendly and attentive, and several call the lunch menu good value. Booking ahead is suggested by one reviewer for a busy Saturday night. The main complaint comes from a parent whose daughter has a dairy allergy. The menu listed vegan ice cream, but staff said it had not been ordered in months, and the family still paid the full child's meal price with no alternative offered. Another reviewer found the meal arrived with too much sauce, plus an extra dish of it on the side.

“We ate at the Portofino after our visit to Ripon Cathedral. We ordered Farmaggio e- carne, pork ribs to start and Raviollaci Funghi Porcini, Pollo Al Pepe as mains. Food was delicious and good portion size. Good value for money. Friendly and helpful staffs. Toilet available.”

“Great food. Huge choice on menu. Very large portions. The sunday lunch is especially recommended. My only reservation is that the meal came with too much sauce already all over and an extra dish of sauce to boot. I would prefer to have my meal without sauce so that i can choose how much to put on myself. However, i know this now and will simply request this the next time i go. And i will go again!!”

“Went for a family meal here like we have done many times before in the past. We haven’t been for a while so thought it would be a nice treat. I’m very picky about where we eat as a family due to my eldest having a diary allergy. They have always been accommodating before. Ordered food and came to order the kids ice creams and they said they don’t have dairy free ice cream or any alternatives like they have previously. I looked at the menu which says it has vegan ice cream as I’m sure I’d seen it before and they said they haven’t ordered it in months due to not many people ordering which I understand but they haven’t updated their menu in months!! They also made us pay the full cost of a child’s meal even though they couldn’t accommodate her as they hadn’t changed their menu. Had I known before hand I wouldn’t have come here and gone somewhere my daughter could have taken full advantage of the children’s menu. So I’ve basically paid 8.95 for a bowl of pasta! Won’t be coming here again and if you have allergies I’d think again as they don’t update their menu and their attitude with it was very rude! Daughter is devastated to have not been included. Even if they had tried and offered her another fruit shoot or a lolly pop (which they have) it would have made the situation better! I’ve added the photo of their menu tonight which shows they have vegan ice cream on. Every suggestion I came up with was shot down!”

“Came here for the first time last night. As a coeliac, I was made to feel very comfortable in my food choices. Unfortunately you cant get the half and half deal so I went for a pizza and It was one of the best GF bases I've eaten. Service was great, and a really nice atmosphere.”
